I'm really happy so far. We took a couple of road trips (2900 & 3745 miles ) through all kinds of weather and they were very predictable, quiet and comfortable. I even burned some donuts at bonneville on em
Ive got a set on my car, when i bought it 8 months ago they were brand new. I looked them up online and saw they were the cheapest tires, so i was skeptical. But, 4700 miles later theyre not bad. I use them as a daily driver through rain and shine and theyve got virtualy no wear. As long as i dont drive like a pissed off teenager, the tires keep me on the road. Im 99% sure id buy them again.
Mine came on my car when I got it, and they are decent tires I guess. They aren't really rain tires. I daily drive mine and the few times I have gotten caught in the rain it has been kind of touch and go. I will prolly get some better more expensive tires next time, but I like the sumitomos.
Get the HTR Z IIIs - IMHO, no better tire for the money. Tire Rack Review had them rated higher than any other summer tire they tested. 8K miles on mine, and they are still as quiet and smooth as the day I gottem. No problems at all in the rain, and I live in South Florida, where it has rained almost every day for a week (though I can't imagine who, in their right mind, would be driving their DD to the point where they have to hold a corner at speed in the rain, on any tire, given the power and torque our cars possess). As far as dry traction, I drove my buddy's 03' Coupe with Nitto 555r the other day (he has less HP and torque, and 3.73 gears), and the grip felt no better than my Sumis.
They are a decent tire for the buck. My only experience is driving my brother's LS1 Z28 with them (275 & 315s on 17" ZR-1 wheels). The traction was somewhat lacking in my opinion, esp. for a 315 tire.
Just bought Sumitomo HTRZIII, 245/45ZR17 front, 275/40/xr18 rear from TR. $528 shipping today from Midway, GA to my local Tire Kingdom just down the road in Leesburg, FL. They're charging me just under $110 to mount & balance. Here in FL we have 7% sales tax so I save forty bucks by dodging the state tax AND their prices can't be beat. I hope to have them on by Thursday.
I've had my HTRZIII's for over a year on my blown C5 and they are probably the best out of the bunch so far, especially for the pricing from Tired Rack! I run them dry and in the rain w/ good traction. Go w/ the sumo wrestling and you will be pleased (and so will your wallet).
