Default Garage floor.

I know this topic has been beat to death, but I don't remember this specific product neing mentioned. Has anyone used the Ucoat It product for their floor? I am thinking about doing something to mine and it is between this and Armstrong tile. Any opinions would be appreciated.

After getting three estimates, I'm having a company coat my 20 year old garage floor. They're using a filler to even out the chips in the floor after they abrade the surface with a grinder. Two part epoxy and a clear coat on top. I talked to several guys around my area and most had peeling problems eventually with the self applied stuff. It's gonna cost about $1500 , and take 3 days, but it's going to be NICE. Good luck!

I'm installing Armstrong VCT. I have yet to see an epoxy coated floor in TX that didn't have worn/bare areas where the hot tires roll in and out.

Check out this link, Rich Lagasse's garage floor is covered in Armstrong VCT and has held up very well. You do have to strip, buff and wax the VCT every 1-3 years depending on you garage's condition and use etc.

http://www.corvetteforum.net/c5/richs7/

Also, if you damage the VCT, you can remove and replace a tile. Nothing is truly maintenance free.

H&C Shield-Crete available at Sherwin-Williams Paint store. It's a two part epoxy and top sealer system. The key is in the floor PREP.

Hid I say "FLOOR PREP"

Had S/W Epoxy paint on floor for over 10 yrs. Only wore off where tires set on floor. Most important is prep of floor and humidity content in concrete. If there is water under floor concrete soaks it up like a sponge and no paint will stick to it. Had another floor prof. done 3 times and it is still flaking!!

Hi 1vette98 -

I used U-Coat-it on my floor when I build my garage addition.

It looked great for a while, but even with meticulous preparation, there are spots where the coating pulled up from hot tires etc.

It is pretty durable, a floor jack does not harm it, but overall, it I had it to do over again, I would try to find a professionally applied industrial coating application company and have them do the job.

I am fairly satisfied, and the floor still looks pretty good after over three years of heavy use.

Here is a pic of the floor right after I applied the coating -

In this pic, you can see some of the places where the material was pulled up by tires -

It is still nice since oil wipes right up and does not stain the floor. Plus, you can mop it up once in a while to keep it looking better.

I used fleck in mine, but I did not apply the gloss coat - it was glossy enough.

Also, I did not use the abrasive to give more traction, and I am glad I made that decision.

Good luck and best regards -

I did a lot of research on this last year when I was building my other garage. I decided on the VCT tile. I could find no negative reviews. Where as the epoxy coating reviews were about 50/50 even if it was professionally installed. 100% satisfaction compared to 50% satisfaction.

And with the VCT if some tiles did become damaged you can sand them a little and slop some polish on. If the tile is really bad you pry it up and slap down a new one As far as maintenance you just sweep it and occasionally throw on some wax. No need to take care of it Target style, it is a garage after all

I have 250square feet worth of DIY rustoleum epoxy in my 550 square foot garage. (ie: half as thick as advised) I'm *not* nice to the garage floor, and though I've managed to scratch it, I have not yet managed to chip it up.

Which Vinyl Composition Tile (VTC) did you go with? Armstrong's? 1/8 inch?

Nice, great thread. The guy across the street from me is doing some kind of new garage floor treatment (it's an "epoxy" type) and I've been meaning to get with him on that (he'll cut me a huge break).

I was shooting pics of my new wheels and realized how crap-tacular the garage looks.

I've been very happy with the Rust Oleum Epoxy kit from Lowes. It's been down for about two months and no signs of hot tire pickup. A friend used it too and has been solid for over 6 months.

an easy fix for the lifting from hot tires is to just throw down some carpet squares for the car to sit on.

I had a product called Liquid Granite Epoxy installed. It's a three day process to prep and apply but the results have been impressive and still looks great after a year. U-Coat It and epoxies from the home improvement stores just didn't hold up for me - hot tires just lifted the material after a year or two. The liquid granite was expensive, $2K for a two car garage, but I'd do it again in a heart beat based on its durability. They all looked good new.

Default Rubber Flooring

Anyone have any experience with the large rubber floor mats? They come 8' by 20 for about 175.00 - 2 should, just about cover my garage. Thanks Duds

I researched this same thing to death when I did my garage floor. This is how mine came out. I used a product called Rocksolid Flooring. It is a polyurea type floor. It has held up really well to date.
