Default Help! I damaged my roof!

I need your help. My top blew off of my car today and i was able to retrieve it. Needless to say the top sustained scratches and damage on the corners. I have another tinted top that i can use now. How much am I looking to pay for repairs? I live in Delaware, so if anyone can advise me on the right direction relative to a a good bodyshop that can repair my top! Thanks in advance. I am pissed!!!!!

there is nothing wrong with latching the top. I just forgot to do so. I am completely at fault! I will get it repaired if it's not to exspensive.

I'm not ragging on you brother. It just seems that a lot of people here have a hard time remembering to latch the top. If you whip out your tool to take a leak, you remember to put him back and zip up your pants right? Same principal.

I also am right here in Delaware. Classic Auto Body does all Covettes and does insuance corvette work and they took care of me with my Viper as well. Ask for Earl, and tell them Steve "the Vacuum cleaner guy" sent you. Good luck, not that you'll need it you are in good hands. Sorry to hear about your top but they will make it all better.

John, You aren't the 1st member to experience this in here. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's a good thing that you have the 2nd roof to carry you over 'till you find a replacement painted roof. My suggestion is to watch/post in the Parts For Sale/Wanted section, and check the CF vendors that salvage Vettes. Experience is the best teacher, don't ya think?

Hang a "Remove before flight" tag on the latch to remind you to check it.

Can't see how that can happen, are people in that much of a rush that they can't take the extra min and double check the latches... Well hope you can get a replacement at a good deal,, sucks to have that happen to anyone !

I have heard about this. I see where you could get sidetracked and forget to latch it. So i obsessively check mine. Hey just imagine if it was your only top! I dropped my top into my vette (I thought it was in the groove but it wasn't) and ripped the center console door. Stuff happens. Good luck!

Its a known problem. In the aviaton community we're briefed to be aware of situations where its likely to catch you.

You may not realize but every small serious of actions has a set pattern. Think about when you dry yourself when you climb out the shower or brush your teeth. You run through the same sub-conscious sequence. If youre interrupted its hard to get back into it and you miss something. Its call a Motor Neurone Pattern by the shrinks.

Air Traffic Controllers never interrupt pilots at the start of the descent without saying "interrupting checks". Its been known for such interruptions to result in landings without "Dunlops"

If you're closing up the car and someone distracts you or you deviate from a norm you can leave it unlatched. Easy. There are those that have and those that will.

There you go. You didn't expect a psychology lecture

To the OP, hope you get the roof fixed up. You're not the first but I suspect you'll not be the last even though that wont make you feel better.

How did it come off? Human error? Sorry about your top, I see them on the auction site all the time for around 250-350, Also check the C5 parts section here.

Human error, I was on the side of the road when I inserted the top on car. I was waiting for my Wife who was driving my other vehicle one mile back, stuck in traffic. When I returned to the driver's seat she was quickly approaching, as she past, I safely entered the roadway. I did not want her to suddenly stop or quickly pull over to my location and cause an accident. After 50ft the sun had re-entered my cabin and my top blew off and tumbled in the roadway. I exited my vehicle picked-up my top placed it in my truck and drove away. Again, I thank you for your support.

Finding a top is the easy part. Matching Millenium Yellow is the trick. Good luck. Look at it this way, you will never forget again.
