[Z06] what does Z06 stand for?
In 1963 there were 4 motors available .......
Standard (not an "option" so no RPO assigned) 327 CI - 250 HP - 350 Tq
L75 - 327 CI - 300 HP - 360 Tq
L76 - 327 CI - 340 HP - 344 Tq
L84 - 327 CI - 360 HP - 352 Tq
If you ordered RPO Z06 (Special Performance Equipment Group) that would add the following items to your build sheet ....
L84 engine
M20 close ratio four speed
N03 36.5 gal fuel tank
P48 "knock off" wheels (listed on the sheet but none known to have been delivered)
G81 "Positrac" rear axle
Also included as part of the package was "special heavy duty" power brakes (above the J65 option), and heavy duty suspension pieces such as stiffer shocks, beefier springs, and a front anti-roll bar.
The engine was not an "option" ..... the Z06 "package" included L84.

The Z06 line item by itself did not include a motor. THAT is true. They did indeed add the L84 360HP engine, but that was not part of the Z06 line item, it was a separate line item, and yes , required. Thats what I said....

Round 157 of this discussion lol........
The hangup here is on the verbal technicality.
Technically, it IS a zero digit.
However, in my own personal conversations with Dave Hill - the Chief Engineer of the C5 Corvette and C5 Z06, Dave referred to the car as a "zeee-oh-six".
Techically speaking, you can spell your child's name "Bob" and pronounce the name "Carl".
I think I will refer to the car as the people who designed and built it do, with no disrespect for those who get hung up on language technicalities.
George Carlin made a very good living pointing out these arcane bits of verbal trivia.
