Default Kooks vs LG Pros???

Hey guys,
I've decided to put LT's on the car and I've done some research. I seemed to find that more people recommended the LG Pros and said they are absolutely the best long tube header for a Corvette. Well, when I contacted the local tuner/performance shop to get some pricing he recommended I go with Kooks. He installs headers all the time and says he gets better dyno results out of them and he personally thought they were a little better built than the LG's. So I'm back to square one. The prices are hand in hand so he's not just saying that for an upsale. They're actually a little cheaper. Please help me out!!!

Just a comment. Even though the one is cheaper he could still make more money with it. It depends on the price he pays for one Vs the other.

I've had LG pros for about 5 years, and couldn't be happier. I installed them on jackstands, and I've heard the Kooks are tougher to install. They have been known to dyno slightly higher@ peak, but the LGs have a wider power band, and better TQ numbers due to their longer primaries. Both are considered top of the line headers. Also, Dynatech, AR, Melrose, and probably others I'm forgetting are options.

I decided to go with American Racing Headers since I am a strong believer in listening to other guys who go extremely fast. (ie. They hold the record for a h/c vette. Way to go robz and Tommy- Anger Management Racing)

that logic can't hold every car setup is different. I have lg's and haven't seen a bolt on's car put out more. plus power under the curve is more important than peak power.

I called a few more tuners and the concensus seems to be that the longer primaries on the LG's gives you the better torque which is what I'm really looking for. I'm not familiar with the American Racing headers.

I do not disagree; however, I just find a h/c vette running 10.22 very impressive.

Quick question.. what mpg on the hwy/city are people with h/c seeing? Assuming stock is 26-28mpg on the hwy.

Mine got 25 mpg stock, and now it gets 27, and has 477RWHP. I credit the higher compression for the added MPGs.

I'm in the market to get headers soon and from the research that I've done so far I'm torn between the LG's and the Kooks.

Does anybody have any information on smog legal headers that would be acceptable in California? Thanks.

Look at my signature.

Other headers may make a two to six more top-end horsepower than the L. G. long-tube Pros, but if you look at the entire power curve you will find that the L. G.s kill all others when you look at the total power under the curve.

This is what I've been told by several people now and I'm set on going with the LG's. I think the power curve and torque I will get is well worth the extra money.

What about the LG 1 3/4 Streets? I have a Callaway Honker only, and plan to only add Headers and a tune. Would I not be better off with the LG streets?

I'd go with the american racing.

LG's are all slip fit connectors, which leak like hell. I believe its either 6 or 8 slip fit connections they have. AR only has 2., the rest are flanged. I've seen dyno compairison's of AR's and LG's on the same car a few hours apart, and also just always keep an eye on these topics, and I don't see any evidence that LG's make a lot more power down low. The overlay of the guy who had both headers on in the same day from 3-4k the LG's made 2-3more hp, and above 4k (where 95% of your wot time will be) the AR's made about 5-8 more rwhp. Tq was teh same way. AR's are comparable to teh LG pros, and you can get AR's much cheaper, they wont leak, and are much much easier to install, and are considerd teh highest quality header on the market as far as fit and finish.

Not "knocking" the LG's, i'd throw on a set if i got em cheap. I think i'd almost go with the dynatech supermaxx' over the LG's, because IIRC, they are flanged at the collector. My dad has a set of these on his C5. Makes great power, 2k coupe, just a BPP vortex intake, Supermaxx headers, and a corsa, thats it, and he made 342/360 to the wheels, still no tune and a ls1 intake.

Regardless, all the headers will make great power, and most people think that somthing that isn't a LG design, you're going to lose an assload of TQ and your car will be slow below 4k, and that isn't the case. I've searched and read my *** off on this subject for the last year, and the only diffrence you'll notice power wise, is at the track, the AR's seem to pick up maybe a tenth, simply because of the more power they make in higher RPM's.

I'd just go with them because they go in way better, and won't leak, and can be had a lot cheaper. Unless one of these sets of ebay headers turns out half way decent for 1/3 teh price, i'll pick up AR's

do the ARH headers make more power down low than the stock manifolds? not asking if they make less than LG's pros. i dont want to deal with leaking, parts not fitting, etc. But i dont want to lose low end tq compared to stock. My lightning had a lot more low end power and i miss it. I really dont want to lose any more low end.

i have lg pros on my car.my tuner said i'm losing 5 to 7 hp up top but agreed that i have more power under the curve.they have been on for several years and there are no leaks.they went on in one evening using a lift and air tools.except for the poster above, i have never heard of anyone having leak problems.the merge collectors are pretty cool too.
