Just bought a 2001 Corvette z06 last weekend and had no problems with it up until today.. Today everything seems to be going wrong with it. I am fairly new to driving a standard and I think I might have royally screwed the car. First off, the E-Brake seems to have lost all tension as when i pull it all the way up, the car still rolls.. Also, i hear rattling/grinding coming from the mid-back of the car for a few seconds when I switch gears and sometimes at other times. Could anyone please shed some light on this for me?
The e-brake is connected to brake shoes inside rotor on rear wheels. You can take the rotors off and adjust them but, ...this is a real guess..., maybe they are automatically adjustable by rolling backwards then applying the e-brake. Do it a few times.
As far as noise in rear, could be driveline vibration. Normally only heard when taking off at normal speed in first gear. I don't know if it manifests itself when shifting between gears. IF this is the noise you are hearing, THEN I don't think its fixable.
Sorry to be guessing here. I'm only throwing out some possible ideas.
The e-brake probably just needs adjustment. You need to take off the wheels..I had a mechanic do it for me..seemed too big of a job for me. as for the other .. hearing the noise when you shift could mean you broke a syncro ?
the rattle you hear between shifts can be the infamous h-pipe rattle. there is a small opening in the h-pipe and sometimes a piece gets loose and makes that sound you are describing. most just buy an xpipe to replace the h-pipe. the loose e-brake is also a common problem with these cars. search for both h-pipe rattle and ebrake adjustment and you will get plenty of info on your issues.
I think there is a thread somewhere about adjusting the springs or something on the H-pipe to get rid of that sound. Mine doesn't make it so I didn't bother with the fix.
Getting an X pipe will also get rid of the popping sound when you let off the throttle. I personally kinda like that sound so I still have the H pipe.

Hmmmm,
didn't know about that H-pipe thing...good to know. I, myself have the x-pipe (came with the LG header set-up) Great news though to hear that was the problem. Cheap fix! Oh, by the way. I also read that the X-pipe gets rid of that "popping" sound..no, no.. it enhances it and I love it!
