5 Minute, $5 Mod

Thanks for the close up pictures. I didn't know what I was looking at either, at first.

thanks for the heads up on these covers. they'll be cheap insurance in case any idiots want to mess with my tail lights.
By the way, might want to use the numbers on the bag in the pic posted by RPM 462. In his post RPM said he couldn't find 880125, but the original post by Lectron Blu showed the part as 881025. Also, the alternate number posted by RPM462 (13762) is different than the number on the bag (137932)
No, that was a typo on my part, sorry.
137932 is what I meant to type.
I went to Lowes. In the hardware aisle is the small-parts bin drawers. Search there for “Hillman #4 & #6 Black Screw Covers Hinged Qty:2 H# 881025”. Buy four envelopes for a total count of eight screw covers (two screw covers X four tail lights). It cost me less than five dollars including tax.
Good luck!
Lectron Blu - great find!
I picked up a set at Lowes yesterday. Today I went to the local hardware store and found some Tamper-resistant screws (thought I might as well replace the stock screws at the same time with a higher quality metal and make them harder to steal my Halos). Anyway, they worked just as you said - "perfect" fit. I am attaching a few closeups of my results.
In retrospect, I probably should have put 2-3 washers behind each cap since the Halo attachment indentions are recessed so deep. I have a feeling these will be a bear to get open again if that day comes. I guess worst case scenario is I could always drill or poke through each cap and sacrifice one set of caps (as they are cheap to replace), but I think if I had added the washers, I could have been able to re-open the caps much easier to regain access to the screws. On the plus side, unless a thief is prepared, these caps when sunken as they are now are a pretty good tamper deterrent in themselves unless they want to take a chance on scratching/cracking the Halos when stealing them - I cannot even get my fingernail around the sides!
I added two coats of Zaino CS to the covers - just to help keep them from turning white.
Closeup of completed install...

Closeup of Tamper-Resistant Torx w/raised center dot installed, but prior to closing plastic cover. Part of the deterrent is that the special bit to install/remove these screws was $11 and the screws were $1.99 each for the 1-1/4" long versions...

One completed light...

I purchased the tail lights 11/06 form VettePitStop (http://www.vettepitstop.com/C5%20product.php), but may people sell them now.

That's funny!!! Glad it all worked out for you!! Looks neat. Might try it one day myself..Don't have a Lowe's here but do have Home Depot. See what i can do! Thanks guys! BAD influences you are
Took a bit of time to not recess the covers too deep where they will not close. May come back with some backing-washers and space it out correctly.
Great find for this mod............GOOD WORK !

Im going to use these in my hatch, door jamb and under the hood as well. The #8 & #10 size works great for under the hood and the door jamb screws, I might have to replace the hatch screws with something smaller. Anyway I did a little research and found this site;
