I have noticed the last two times I have driven my 02Z06 that the shifter is getting sticky. At one point when I parked the car and then got back into it ten minutes later I could not get it into reverse. It seems like when it gets warmed up the shifter gets sticky. Any advice? Change the differential fluid????
Differential fluid has no effect on the shifting of the transmission. You might want to change the transmission fluid. Try either the new Mobil 1 ATF or Red Line ATF (both synthetics). I put Red Line ATF in my transmission, and it definitely smoothed out the shifting. Some folks are very happy with the Amsoil synthetic ATF as well and say it makes the tranny shift much smoother.
If you change it yourself, make sure that you check what comes out for evidence of metal shavings that might show synchro wear. And make sure you're actually changing the tranny, not the differential. It wouldn't hurt to change the differential fluid too, but that takes regular 75W90 hypoid gear oil, not ATF. Do NOT mix up the diff and the tranny!
You have low miles on the car, but one question -- have you ever forced the shifter into reverse? It is possible to bend the shifting forks on the '02, as they are aluminum, IIRC. If you forced it, and the fork bent, you'll have problems getting it into gear.
But the first place I'd start is changing the tranmission fluid.
If as your profile says you have an '02 with only 2150 miles on it, it's not even broken in.
I would definatly suggest changing the fluids and specifically the tranny fluid with Royal Purple Syncromax. The manual says to use ATF tranny fluid, but I replaced my fluid originally with Royal Purple ATF and just changed it again with RP Syncromax and the Syncromax feels better.
80 mile round trip on Houston's freeway system would cause way too many rock chips, not to mention all the mufflers, tires, ladders, dead dogs, etc.... you have to keep from running over. I like the back roads
