bestvettever, Thanks for the testing guide. This may get to be more than this 65 year old, overweight guy with bad knees can do. It never crossed my mind about maybe having to drop the exaust pipe. I would have had no problem working under the car 15 years ago but it is much harder now. I will check the relay if I can get someone over to do the shifting in and out of reverse while I check for relay operation (sound).
All of you guys have been a great help and I thank you much. I will post back when I get it working.

Btw, order your switch today from Fichtner Chev, as it is the last day of a sale (extra discounts) running til the end of June. Call Bob or Tom in the parts dept. @ 1-800-234-5284.

One other thing: replacing the back-up lamp switch on the transmission does not require dropping the exhaust.

Save yourself some trouble. It's really easy to check the switch on the transmission. Turn on the ignition (don't start the car), pull the plug off the b/u switch, short the two contacts together. If the b/u lamps come on, replace the switch. If they don't, troubleshoot then. It's about a 90% chance that if the fuses are good, the switch is bad. Do your b/u lights flash on when you press the key fob? If so, another indication that the switch is bad and not the bulbs.
Yes, the lights come on with the fob. I will get the car up enough to see if I can replace or test the switch. I also will short the contacts for the final test of the switch. Thanks 65GGvert.
"And there was light." New switch and it works fine. After I replaced the old switch and got everything put away I though I would test the old one. Put a meter on it and it tested good. Hope the plug-in was tight. Will trash the old one anyway as the new ones are only $22 and change with tax. Thanks to all for the help.
