Default cam for road racing.

I have been searching the endless cam threads. Cant find an answer to this. What is a good grind for road racing. I do a lot of track days. I would love a monster cam like the MS4 but not sure how often I would be replacing valve springs under that kind of abuse. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've been road racing ECS custom grind, commonly referred to as the GeorgeZ Cam for 3 years now.

Default Cam

Been running a MS3 for about two years. It loves Sebring. I even autocross with it!

Here is a bit of an old thread but it will help

http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422520

MS4 is a drag racing cam. RR cams may not give you super high numbers, but will have immediate throttle response and get you out of corners ASAP. We all know straight-a-way speed is dependent on your exit speed of your last corner.

Look for charts of cams that will give you more then 300 lb ft of tq at 3000 rpms.

as Higgs mentioned stay under a .600 lift for valve life.

This would be a solid choice among many, many other. Call LGM and talk to LOU he will set you up in the right directoin (being a road racer and having many cams he sells) or better yet call Allan Futral of Futral Motorsports he is a LS cam GENIUS and not arrogant!

I agree, call LG's.... Lou bieng a road racer for years will know.

Make sure to get something with a lot of low end torque.... don't focus on top end HP.

As Lou puts it...."HP sells cars, Torque wins races"

I'm sure Lou would give credit to Carroll Shelby for that one.

Wrong. It's the exact opposite...higher LSA = lower powerband and vice versa.

If this is the case why is the GM ASA roadracing cam on a 110 lsa. Also they have a 108 on the Grand Am Cam. Not saying your wrong just trying to understand why.

Lou recommended the G5X3 and the G5X4 for LS6 road course duty.

duration determines where in the rpm range it makes power and lsa determines how peaky or flat the curve is. lower lsa is a smaller area but a higher peak number and higher lsa is a larger area of power but not as much.

duration and lift combine with lsa to make magic. each criteria by itself is nothing.

i recommended a low lsa because it makes more power and a true road course car has proper gearing and driver shifting to keep the motor in the powerband. if you shift, you don't need power from 2K to 7K.....
