On my C5 convertible when the top is up there is a piece of felt attached to the rear (inside) which covers part of the painted stow away lid. When the top is up and windows are down all this thing does is flap around in the wind. Is there some funcitional purpose for this cloth or is it ok to cut it out?
Good question. I don't notice mine flapping around. I assume it is to provide a softer look on top of the tonneau cover with the top up. I can't see that it offers any protection.

How about a couple of small pieces of velcro to hold it in place when top is up? Just a thought. If it's nice enough for windows down then my top is down for sure.
Thanks guys..I didn't think about it reducing glare..guess I'll have to keep it and figure something else out like weighing it down..glad I didn't cut it
I know what you mean about nice weather and top down...but I live in central Florida and in the summer the rain comes too quick sometimes..haa thanks though
Wow, I'm glad I saw this post! I bought my C5 convertible last fall and I agree with many of you that this beautiful car was not meant to be driven with the top up. Yesterday, however, I found myself walking to my open car as raindrops suddenly started falling. I quickly put up the top for the very first time and turned on the A/C, also for the first time. On the highway as I headed home the rain stopped and I felt too cold with the A/C seemingly blasting away at full force. I turned off the A/C and opened the windows. Yes, the glare protector covering the lid began to flop like crazy. This morning I checked the owner's manual and the shop manual, but to no avail. Thanks to these posts, however, I now know what to expect under top up/windows down driving...whenever that scenario re-occurs. Thanks folks.
PS I also learned how to control/use the A/C!
I had the same flapping on mine. I looked and saw a 1" x 6" strip of elastic that runs from the front edge of the flap to the frame of the top that was sorely stretched out. I carefully unstitched one end and unscrewed the other end from the frame and replaced it with a new piece. Viola, no more flapping. My sewing was a little rough but it worked fine...
You will have a hard time seeing out the back glass if you cut it out!!
No, you won't. I removed mine years ago and have never missed it. No glare problems, looks cleaner and simpler. No flapping on the odd occasions when the top is up but windows are down
