The biggest misconception is that WD-40 is not a lubricant or a way to grease up mechanical parts... it's actually a degreaser, rust prohibitor, and helps break down dirt, oil, or grease for cleanup.
WD40 is actually a Water Displacement (WD) product.

The basic ingredient in it is, believe it or not, FISH OIL!
Completely correct. WD-40 is one of those miracle fluids, but it's not for lubrication.
Surprisingly, it also works great as a fish attractant. Spray your bait with a little WD-40 and the fish hit it like you wouldn't believe.
Myth: WD-40 Multi-Use Product is not really a lubricant.
Fact:
While the “W-D” in WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, WD-40 Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.
Another good use of wd 40 is, if your lawn mower is hard to start after an extended winter, remove plug and spray a little in cylinder, replace plug and it should start right up or remove breather and spray into carb, works really well. Use the lithium on hinges.
