Default Help Me Decide!!! Hotrod Vs Vette

68 Chevelle SS 396 Big block The guy is only asking 18,000. I have a 2003 c5 z06 (20,000 miles with many upgrades) MY in mint condition. Would you try and sell the vette to buy this or hold onto the vette?

Keep the Vette, the Chevelle will not make you happy driving it around, now if you can have both that is a different story

My second thought was to keep the vette and drop a big cam in it and just make it into more of a show car.

How much do you drive, gas is not getting cheaper? My old big block Chevelle used to get 8mpg light footed. But if that car is a rust free true SS it will double in value if you keep it long enough.

That it a dang nice looking Z. I think that you would definitely miss it if you sold it.

Default Two different beasts

I think you need to ask yourself what will be using the car for. If you are looking for something just to cruise and go to shows I would buy the Chevelle. However, if you are looking for something that better all around and eaier to live with I would stick with the Vette (better mileage, better handeling, etc).

If the vette is a DD, I would keep it and forget the hot rod. If however you just want something to drive on the weekends and to car shows, then the big block will do just fine. Just remember that big block will not handle like the vette, no creature comforts (A/C, nice stereo and all the power options), and the performance will probably be close. So it is your choice.

When I bought my 01 a few years back, the wife was the one that suggested getting a car to get back into the car club type environment. She actually thought I was looking to get a late 60's Camaro or Chevelle. After we discussed the pros and cons she agreed that a C5 or a C6 would be the best way to go. As we ride together to work we only really need one car, so the vette is a weekend cruiser and taken to work a few times a month. But with the A/C and the other comforts it made more sense to buy it then a hot rod that did not offer the comforts of the newer cars.

We are looking at a few different things. The vette is not a DD and the chevelle would be mostly for shows. The Chevelle would ease my monthly payment, and the wife is looking for something that down the road we could sell and recoupe our money. I don't think the vette will do that! I love my vette, but, it's hard to pass up a true SS for that kind of money. The Chevelle has been restored from the ground up.

Depends on how you plan to use it. If you're going to drive it regularly the cost of gas may be a factor. I can't imagine the 68 getting more than 11-12 MPG while the Vette brings 25-30. If you have enough disposable cash and you're not worried about that, then get the 68 as it's much more desirable. There are a ton of C5s out there, but very few 68 Chevelle SS's around.

Like others have said, decide what you want to use the car for. And which is going to "light you up" more. You don't need to be loyal to the Corvette... there's nothing wrong with having enthusiasm for other cars... especially one as sweet as that Chevelle.

You're crazy if you don't jump on that Chevelle SS! I had one in high school, and like a dumba** sold it, (for what I paid for it) and thought I made out like a bandit. Now I watch the SPEED TV coverage of the Barrett-Jackson auctions and just cry my eyes out. That car I sold back in the 70's would be worth six-figures now. (I had the true cowl-induction hood option) Get the Chevelle! If you decide to pass on it, then let ME know!

Keep the Vette. I DO love the Chevelle, too! Find a way to get it too!

Sounds like the start of a collection, if "I" could, both. JOE
