I always changed mine with no more than 4500 miles on the oil - simply because it would have been well over a year between changes if I waited until the oil life monitor said to change the oil. Just didn't drive the car enough I guess.
Eviltwin,(former corvette engineer that was in on the OLM) has stated more than once to follow the OLM OR 1 year.. Sounds like that is what most here are following. Mine has dropped below 15% so I'll be changing this week as I'm going to take a little road trip soon,,and this fill has about 15 test and tune passes on it as well as 13 dyno pulls. I think it's due!!
I've gone as high as 9000 miles on one oil change. On that one I reset the OLM when it hit zero and drove another 2000 miles. As always, I got an oil analysis done and it came back perfectly fine.
My oil changes always get done in in the exact same place -- in my garage -- so there's zero miles between changes.
Oh, wait, that's not what you meant....
I really don't notice the mileage. I just do it when the DIC gets to 10%. I'd guess I'm averaging about 4K between changes -- I do a lot of short trips and around town driving.
I once went 2,800 miles between oil changes, and I thought that was excessive. I'm glad I don't buy used cars.
One big question,,,,WHY????? You OBVIOUSLY have not read any of Eviltwins post!!Many parameters time and tests are used to develop the OLM .After further tests indicated they were overly conservative they extended the range in 01. With synthetic oil it's just plain silly to change that often, but to each their own ! Using the OLM they have run test motors OVER 200,000 miles with NO significant wear! I have a friend (one of my golf buddy's)that has a 97 GMC Sonoma (and uses regular oil) only changes every 4000 and has OVER 1/2 million miles on virgin drive-train!! As a matter of fact he's getting close to 600,000 (something like 580,000 I haven't asked him lately). The ONLY major part replaced so far has been the A/C compressor!! SO unless it takes a year to hit that 2800 miles you are waisting time MONEY and OIL!! You thought that was excessive,,you thought WRONG! There are TONs of engineering proof to the contrary!! Your car,,your choice,,and free to post your choice,,just don't add little shots implying your way is SO superior that you don't buy used cars. Your are Not right and not superior,,just wasteful of our natural resources. You are entitled to your opinion, but when you take cheap shots you open yourself to a reply!
Well, I just changed the oil and filter in my vette DIC was at 7% and mileage was at 7537. My vette is my DD so it gets a little stop and go traffic and some interstate in the during the drives between oil changes. It's a 2000 model, I don't know if they extended the oil life in 2001/2 or not to make to closer to 10K but mine has been close to 7500 each time the DIC has shown single digits for the Oil life.
