Just looking to add some perf. to the 2003Z and thought about an aluminum flywheel. There is approx. 18lbs + of weight savings and quicker response on RPMs up and down...Has anyone done this and if so would they recommend ? Also Ecklers claims the AL flywheel must be balanced to match the stock carbon steel, is this true ?? Thanks for the input guys. My car has only 5K in miles but .....addicted...
Talk to Tony Mamo about this. You will want to change the stock clutch if you do this simply because the stock clutch is crap to begin with. There are pros and cons to doing this mod.
I have a Fidanza Aluminum in mine. It deffinatly revs faster and is great for blipping.... Make sure you get rid of the stock pos Just look at the difference
What are your goals? Are you looking for more power or simply want the motor to rev quicker? There are better bang for your buck performance mods than a flywheel. Save the flywheel until the clutch needs replacing. There is a lot of labor involved.

I have been thinking about this too. I had a lighter flywheel in my rx7tt and it did rev up and down quicker. And like the other poster said, it does make the car tougher to get rolling from a stop. You get used to it.
I gained an average of 7rwhp and 7rwtq across the entire RPM range on a dyno. I only went to aluminum b/c I was doing a clutch anyway. Worth it if you're doing a clutch as the primary job, but not if your objective is just to change the flywheel.
I have a RPS clutch set up with an alum. flywheel. It is much harder to take off on the street especially with a big cam. I road race the car and it works very well for down shifting and keeping the revs up.
The BIGGEST downfall is that the stock steel flywheel dampens most of the drivetrain vibrations and transmission rattling. You will not like the noise the alum flywheel transmits in the car. This is at an idle only. If you really don't mind the noise you can always hold the clutch in at a light.
Good luck!
Only downfall I have found with my Fidanza unit has been the increased noise at idle. Other than that it's been a great upgrade. Since my car is 90% track/autox I have just learned to ignore it.
Thanks for the input guys. I talked with Ton Mamo and he really spent time on educating me on the system and my actual needs. Really a good talk. I will be using him for the system he suggested, thanks again...
