Default MAF Cleaning

Can you clean the MAF ( not the screen type, just 2 wires) with a Qtip and alcohol if very careful? The car only has 7000 miles, can it be that dirty already? Does just the slightest amount of dirt cause a problem- Does not look dirty to the eye.

Thanks

Honestly just don't even touch it.

I know people have had good results using the spray can type MAF cleaner on the honey comb type MAFs but with only 7k miles you shouldn't be looking to clean the thing.

Use a MAF aerosol rather than the Q tip swab and alcohol. It's much easier and safer to do.
I do it as routine maintenance every time I change my oil and filter, no matter what it looks like or how many miles.

The 2002+ MAF (without screen) actually has 3 sensors in the air stream that look like tiny resistors in shape. Unless you were running an oiled air filter, they should be clean at 7K miles.

Like others have said, if you do want to clean them, use a spray cleaner specifically for MAF use.

disconnect the plug from the maf before you spray and give it time to dry and then reconnect.

A qtip and with brake cleaner or alcohol is what I use. You have to be careful, but you can touch the wires to clean it. It all depends on what you are comfortable doing.
