I'll be making my first trip to the track tonight and was wanting your input on this. I have a 97 A4 with minor bolt ons and a tune. What says you, traction control on or off?
Put it in competition mode, press and hold your traction control down for a few seconds until you see competition mode displayed on your dash. This turns traction control off down low but still maintains stability upstairs

If your talking about taking it to a drag strip definately turn the traction control off. It always costs me at least a half second when I forget to turn it off.
off. besides you cant do a burnout with it on. tried that stupid manuever the first time after i had linelock installed it dont work. felt like an idiot. many others have done this.
Since this is your first time out, I would leave all of the computer controls on for the first fw rounds, after that, remove them. You should be able to push your car enough to let the computer kick in, at that point, make a mental reference as to how much slip angle you have or braking before any of the controls kick in. After you feel comfortable enough with the limits of the car and remembering how far you can push it, then switch off, caution: After your turn off all electronic controls, you may experience desires to keep racing, really, also the car may suddenly get out from under you or break loose in a turn depending how hard you are in a turn. Just be careful and watch the fools out there who just want to hot dog their cars and hog the track, you will spot them, stay away from them, they are dangerous.
I agree with Californiakid. If you don't have drag radials you may end up out of control. Try it with the traction control off KNOWING you may end up "sideways" Good luck. You will soon become addicted.
Sorry guys, to be clear this is just a 1/4 mile drag on street tires. I've hammered the car plenty on normal roads and usually turn off TC. Doesn't seem to be uncontrollable so I guess off it is! May run a few with it on just to see the difference.

Turn the traction control off. If not, once it detects any wheel spin, there goes your run. And you're right, you don't have a competition mode - no active handling on the '97s.
Good luck!
Make sure and post up how you did.
p.s. How's that A/C doing?
Hey C5streak!
Still working strong. Think we may have finally got it!
Got rained out at the track. Sucks because three of us (07 Stang GT, 05 Vette, and my 97) drove an hour to meet up there. Ended up going to a bar for dinner and a few drinks then went our separate ways. Maybe next week.
First time I went to the track I turned it off....my first run I think I spun the tires the entire length of the track. Stock run flats suck. I couldn't get any traction for the life of me. So after that I got some drag radials...but back to that first time, I ended up turning traction control ON for the launch and then turned it OFF before I hit second or my car would bog down shifting to second. I have an A4 by the way...I actually did much better using this method on those tires, if you can call them that! Have fun, hope its dry next time
