i was looking at this z06, and was curious what this is on the door channel...

I believe it's there to keep the window from popping out at high speeds.

Not the windshield...it's to align the windows / keep them in place.

My old 83 El Camino had the same thing... I guess GM finds something and sticks with it!

Pressure.
I remember taking my brothers old '91 mustang to the track and racing it. It didn't have those. At 140mph the side glass was a good 3/4 of an inch from the weatherstripping. Seriously not cool.
