It just comes down to do you think the upgrades are worth the price you will have to pay difference.
with this post totally. Us C5ers tend to dismiss the C6 as a C5.5, but there are just some offerings the C6 has that can't be adequately replicated in the C5. I personally love my C5 as is but know that I won't keep it forever. Right now I am sort of married to it, but two years from now, who knows.

Again, trading up is all about the money. If you like the C6 and are comfortable with making the deal, then make the deal.

I personally sat in and drove a few C6s and C6Zs to see if the trade would be wise. I felt like I had much less room in the C6 than the C5, and for me at 6'3 240lbs that's really important. So since I wasn't comfortable at all in the new vettes I decided to keep my C5.

You can always make modifications for increase HP, interior looks and handling in your C5 over a C6.

Now for me, if I were to switch to a C6… it would only be for a C6 Z06 model. That’s because I like everything about that car.

But for now… I could still live with my C5 over the standard looking C6. I don’t think it is worth the trouble or the extra $$$. Either way, you're still driving a corvette

Very cool illustration, thanks for adding that to the discussion!

The only thing that cant be added really is a warranty on that kind of power...

That aspect alone is deal-maker or deal-breaker for a lot of us, no?

Its expensive to add 80+HP to a C5 (the right way, that is). The cash you would lay out to do that to a C5 could be used on a down payment for a C6. If you love your C5, then by all means, mod away and enjoy. If you don't feel comfortable modding your C5 (I am leery of power mods, BTW) then trading up is the thing to do. Again, its all about the money

BTW, just to be clear, I think the C5 is the better looking car and it will be hard for me to part with it when that day comes, but I base my decision on what makes the most financial sense to me. Right now, for me, that means keeping my C5.

Ok, the C6 have more power but when I tested one I didn't felt this difference... maybe it comes from the gear ratio which is better to the C5. You can also just have a look on the 0 to 60 mph.

The C6 is easyest to drive and more safe but the Corvette is a sport car and I feel much more sensation with the C5.

In addition of that I prefer the design of the C5. So my vote goes to the C5.

I dont think 80 HP is too hard to come by...reliability might become a bit of an issue...just depends on the setup...LS engines respond very well to a simple cam change

I agree the warranty is a deal breaker for many people. However, on something that is out of warranty, moding a car makes no difference. I also like the C5 body style better. I guess what I am saying is, for the amount of money you save by keeping the C5, you can turn around and mod the C5 to be just as good if not better than the C6...although i i guess it kind of depends on how much you purchased or are purchasing your C5 for.

For me personally i paid 22000 for a 97 3 years ago. To get anywhere near the cost of a C6, I could add just about anything i want to the car. Plus i usually do my own work so i get to play with the car, learn about the car and make sure the job is done the way i want it. Plus it gives a good reason to come on here and ask questions about the car and interact with other people who may have ideas.

Get a C6Z. The C6s aren't bad cars. The only thing that should stop you is wether you like the looks of the C5s or C6s better.

with everything in your post. Like I said, it all comes down to money. Let me also add....and how you want to spend it. IMHO I would spend far more dollars modding my C5 (properly and legally) to match the output of the C6. Of course the refinements of the C6 over the C5 is more than just HP. I am not a HP junkie or a gearhead (that can save by doing his own work like yourself) so it all comes down to the whether I stay put or trade up when my extended service plan is up. It sounds to me like the OP has to answer these kind of questions for himself

I'll give you three bits of advice on this.

1) Do NOT listen to your dealer, all he's interested in is selling the new car. He's not really interested in what's best for you.

2) Drive the C6, if you like it enough to spend the extra money it will cost you to make the deal, then do it, if you still like your C5, then stay with your C5....

3) IF you are still in doubt, do not take what the dealer has to say into account for any help in your decision. It all comes down to what YOU like...

You really should not be asking people here what YOU should be doing. Don't get me wrong, we all love to help forum brothers, but this all comes down to what YOU like best and can afford.
