Default 04 or 05 ?

Greetings, Got a question for the group. I sold my 94 C4 last year and have regretted it, so I’m back in the Corvette market, Found a 04 Z06 with 7K all stock and a 05 coupe with 13K both with manuals and the same price, I don’t figure corvettes should have a auto. Any way from your guys point of view what is the better car? It’s a weekend driver when it’s nice car for me, not a commuter. I like the looks of both but last I checked I can only afford one! So what the consensus ?

C5Z or C6

I had them both, the C6 is a way better car, although I'm back in a C5, didn't have the heart to chop up my C6.
The C5 Z is a tad quicker.
I'm sure 95% of your replies will favor the C5, I did too, until I bought a C6, it really is a better car.

I'd go for the 04 Z06 over an 05 Coupe.

If you search this forum you will find a lot of C5 Z06 vs C6 threads. The general idea is that the C6 is nicer/ more comfortable while the C5Z06 provides a more racey feel and is a tad faster. Good luck. Either one provides a lot of car for the money.

I personally like the look of any Z06 vs what the next guy has. If you want a more comfortable and livable day to day ride.....C6 for sure. If you want to have the performance and the rarity factor....C5Z06. The C5 Z06 is definately more rare on the roads where I am from vs a C6 Coupe or Vert. If it were a C6 Z06....then that would be your choice regardless. C5 Z06 are bumpy and stiff, C6's are smoother (more Buick like then a C5 Z06).

What do you want to do with the car?

Performance. Get the Z06.
Daily driver. Get the Z06.

Looks are subjective, I like them both. But all else equal, C5 was sexier.

Default buyers choice

Obviously the choice is yours. Do you choose by style , performance , reliability, ride, color, ect?
But the '04 C5 Z06 is the most refined of the C5 s.
The '05 C6 is a new model ( my sister in law has a black coupe, with 3,000 miles and squeeky brakes, that have been changed and changed by the dealership, her husband the race engine builder, different types of brake pads & rotors) squeeekkk, squeekkk . Oh her comes your sister, honey. LOL) My wifes, 2000 FRC and my '01 Z06 brakes don't squeek, hehehehe.

If the idea of maybe oil consumption with the LS6 crosses your mind , well it will also cross your mind on the LS2, as the LS2 has oil consumption stemming from the PVC system. http://http://forums.corvetteforum.c....php?t=1724319.

My personal opinion is that the C6 will not hold value as the C5 Z06. I do NOT like the Euro / or Viper headlights, sorry I'm a traditionalist. Would I buy a C6 ? No. Thanks for asking.

well, not meant to be a flame response as I do plan on getting a C6 sometime down the road ( 2006 Z06)

the C5Z06 is a Corvette AND a Z06.. You must decide if you want a C5Z06 fixed roof car because if you do you need to just get it and be done with it.

both great cars, both different from each other.

Well thanks for all your replies, I had kind of decided on the C5Z just because it’s a little different then a normal vett, I drove a C6 yesterday it is a very nice car and I like all the little bells and whistles but also realize that’s just more electrical stuff to go wrong down the road once the warranty is off. Anyway thanks for your opinions

Good choice, you don't ever want a first year anything made by anybody, that also includes a corvette.

I find the last production year of any corvette made is always the top of the line, in engineering, and everybody knows we all lean from our mistakes, and by the last year they got it right, or as close as ther going to get.

The only way to buy a transition year corvette, is with NO miles, the point being your going to put it away and not use it at all.
