Default Size Matters

This is embarrassing, but I weigh in round 300 lbs and am 6 ft tall. I've never owned a Vette, but am seriously considering a C5 in the near future. Just wondering about the comfort level, if there are any others guys in this group in the big & tall category.

I know I should stop by a dealership and sit in one, but I don't want to make a spectacle of myself if I can't get in or out of the thing.

Any big guys here? I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Randy

First of all - welcome. Second of all, while I am not in the same category as you size wise, I think you should be able to fit okay in a C5. They are pretty roomy, and I think have more room than a C6.

Third of all - most importantly - I wouldn't let a dealership intimidate me, to the point of not being able to go in and sit in a car. Why do you care what they think? If a Corvette is your interest, go in and try one. As you well know, body shapes come in every different variety imaginable, and I think the only way to find out for sure is to try. I've seen some pretty big guys in C5's and they can do it - so can you.

I wish you the best of luck finding a car.

Not your size myself, but I have a good friend who is 6' 3" and weighs about 265. He has ridden and driven my vert. He does have a little trouble getting in one of his workers coupes, but in the vert with the top down he has no problems. I suggest you try a vert even tho the top can't always be down it is easier to get in and out of most of the time.

Randy,

I'm 6' and 270 (on my lighter days) I fit just fine in my C5. The wife and I took a 3700+ mile trip in it in Apr/May and we were just fine. We stopped every couple hours to stretch and move around, which you should do anyway when traveling, and made 700 miles first day and 500 second day. No problems and the trip was GREAT!

So, go for it. You won't regret it!

Dennis

My coworker is 6'4" and he rides hot shot every now and then for breakfast. He weights around 300lb and it he fits in the passenger side well enough. He has driven my car, and he has told me the drivers side has more space for some odd reason. He almost hits the pillar with my regular seating possition, but when he backs the seat all the way back, he does fit. It's a tight fit in the coupe, but he does fit, so you should too. I also know of a guy here in town that owns the movie theather, and he used to own a MY ragtop, and he is about 6' tall and weights well over 300lb, and he would drive that car all the time. You should give it a try!

Randy -

I am 6ft 7in tall and weigh "around" 300#. My C5 is a daily driver and I am actually more comfortable in it than I am in my Tahoe.

My dad has a C5 and a C6. The C5 is definitely "roomier" for me. I can "fit into either and have done long trips (denver to DFW in C5, DFW to South Dakota in C6) without any trouble at all.

Find a Chevy dealership with a used C5 on the lot and go try it and a C6 out. You will be surprised. People are in shock when they see me and my big ol butt get out of my car!!

Hope this helps!

You will have no problem fitting in a C5. I'm 6'2" and 400lbs and have no problem fitting in my 99 couple. It is very comforable to drive.

I have a C5, and I am 6'1, but not 300lbs, but my buddy (is a man) who is 6'1 and about 305 fits comfortable in both the drivers seat and the passenger seat of my bar. The Corvette is a big and rather roomy "sports car"...Good luck and welcome to the family!! ok so the welcome was a tad premature....hehehe

I am 6'3" and weigh 294 and have a 2004 Z06. I have plenty of room and can get really comfortable in the car. The only issue I had was the seat belt. While plenty long enough, I had a hard time reaching the buckle end by the console. I went to the local dealer and they gave me a pair of nine inch seat belt extenders. Now it is much easier to connect the seat belt. The extenders come in 9 and 12 inch sizes and are free to the car owner.

6'5" 255# fit fine in my C5. I don't fit well in my cousins C6. At my size the seat is all the way back and my head hit the C6 roof support.
