Got into an accident in my C5. Heres the photos of the damage. The car was hit directly on the drivers side front wheel, pushed over a curb onto a median and the other front side was shoved into a light pole. The radiator exploded, there was oil on the ground, three rims are scratched pretty bad, there are also scratches down the whole drivers side of car. Both air bags were deployed. What do you think??? Repairable or totaled?
VERY fixable. my car was rear ended(bought it wrecked) and it wasn't totalled. The guy just didn't want a wrecked car and deal with fixing it. So i bought it cheap and did it myself. Doesn't appear to have frame damage from the pics and i'm lookin' it appears to need fenders, hood maybe, bumper and headlight assembly with some other odd's and ends. What year? Now that i realised it the bags were blown, Usually they are totalled out when that occurs.
I don't think I'd want it after it's fixed, but it's probably fixable.
I guess what i am asking is if anyone has seen or been in a simalar circumstance. I want the insurance company to total it so i can buy a new car. Its value is toast now. Do you think if we push them to total it they will? By the way its the other guys fault.

If it was a 97-200ish I would say yes but I would bet they do not total it.
You could run the engine without oil till it blows
That would add to the repair bill.
Keep us posted and good luck
It depends on what the book value of the car is compared to the estimate to repair. If the damage is over a certain percentage of the book value then the insurance company will total the car out. If not totaled and the car is repaired, I would go after them for the depreciated value. If the car was worth $20,000 book value before it got hit and now it would only bring say $14,000 I would make the insurance company pay the $6,000 on top of fixing the car. Then you can decide whether to keep the car or sell it and buy another.

Its an 04 and in my area they are going for 28,500 and 31,000 it seems. It only has 18k on it. So they should definately compensate me for depreciated value i would hope. This is my first accident so i can use any good advice for dealing with the insurance companies that you guys and girls have to give. Thanks for the comments so far!

They probably won't, but that depends on who the insurance company is. Good luck. Hope everything works out for ya.
I wouldn't want it. I'm betting on totaled. Good luck to you.
Rick
Thanks for all the input. I am praying its totaled and I can buy anew Vette and move on. I would think they should compensate me for the depreciated value though. We are gonna push our insurance company hard to total it. And since its not our fault hopefully our insurance company will be receptive to giving us what we want.
Just gotta say I love Corvette Forum and as soon as I get this mess behind me I am gonna pay to become a lifetime member cuz I really appreciate this forum. Thanks again everyone.
I feel you pain.... So sorry..... Judging by the pictures and your description, it seems repairable; however, that's entirely up to your insurance company. Whatever their verdict, do you still want it knowing it's been damaged? That's the real question you have to answer. Good luck on whatever you decide.
