I'd push for a total

The steering will need serious work to realign it and who knows what frame damage or engine damage has been done. Even though body shops are amazing nowadays I'd never be sure I wasn't sitting on a heap of trouble.

That said, the Ins Co will look at cost vs value.

Hope it works out for you.

They are not going to total it if there is no frame damage. Reason being that you only have 11-13k worth of damage and car is worth more than twice that. Your going to have to deal with getting someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to repairing vettes.

You have quite a bit of damage.

The real questionis is how much mechanical damage the car has suffered ? From the looks of it you have about $12K to $15K in just body part damage (Fenders, Hood, Headlight, inner fender wells, crash bar)

Add the air bag parts $1,200 and what ever mechanical damage (rims, tires, suspension, cradle, etc) and more than likely it's a total.

Good luck.

Remember, you are NOT in good hands with any insurance company. Do not accept ANY money until you are satisfied with the amount. Absolutely go for a total loss, and start looking for a replacement of your car in it's pre-crash condition. They will only try to give you a low book price for yours, so tell them you want your car REPLACED, DO NOT accept a check unless you can go buy the EXACT car for that money. It may take six months to do it, but the insurance company has all the time in the world, and they know you don't!!

Standard procedure used to be apx 80% of the value of the car to claim a total loss. With the airbags delpoyed that also enters as a consideration. I would see if I can get a KBB value on the car then an estimate for replacement parts--obviously not including labor and any hidden damage you might not find--that should give you a pretty good estimate as to where you stand.

Good luck. I would hope with the airbags deployed they would total it out for you.

Thanks. The insurance adjuster today looked at it and said it was close to totalled but they would have to put on a lift and dismantle the front end to see other damage. However the lot they towed it to for inspection is the very same lot we bought the Vette and 2 previous Mustangs from. So they called us and actually asked us what our preference was before he even looked at it. We told him we want it totaled. So hopefully that will be an advantage in our favor. Maybe they know they have another potential sale on their hands if they total it. At any rate i will find out more in the next couple of days holding my breath, summer is almost gone! I will post the resolution so maybe it will help someone else. Thanks again for all the input. Corvette Forum rulz.

Front end damage? Did they get the rear end too? Time for a Tiger Shark! Seems to be the standard reply. All joking aside, sorry to hear about the wreck. I hope all goes well.

Well...There is 17,500 in damage. Not totalled. So that stinks. The good news is next week I will be the proud owner of a brand new 2008 Corvette with 0 miles. I will miss the C5 section but I will be around the C6 forums. Thanks again for all the replies.
