would you use 'the fix a flat' product? was at the auto parts store and saw it and the green slime product. also saw the flat repair/plug kits. for the z06 which would you use for non run flat tires? thanx

the times i've had a flat i immediately had it trailered to firestone on a flatbed. not willing to mess with fix-a-flat. although i hear that stuff does work.

Default Slime Time.

I have never even taken the shrink wrap off my original tire repair kit but figured the sealant goo in there was probably out of its use period so started looking around for a new sealant to keep on hand. Saw lots of horror stories, plus lots of bitching from people who have to change tires about the fix-a-flat stuff making huge messes that are hard to clean up and foul the LTPWS (not an issue on Z06's of course). The final recommendation from most people was to use the green Slime stuff because not only did it work very well but it was water soluble.

So all they have to do when they replace the tire is hose it off and the surface is completely clean. One of the other products actually had to be chiseled off. Um, ouch. I don't want anyone chiseling things off my aluminum wheels while his boss yells at him to hurry up. So one vote for green Slime from me.

I never knew that. I'm hitting Walmart this weekend for a can of green slime. My original Z06 fix kit is at least 4.5yrs old. I suspect its prob out of date by now. I hope the green slime will fit in my little box in the trunk.

I have my stock Z06 wheels in my garage that are available to get me home in case of emergency. I don't travel far from town much. My wife could grab my old stockers and my jack and come save me...

i have a 20 dollar compressor in the trunk from wallmart that plugs into the lighter socket and a 7 dollar plug kit also from walmart. beats a tow bill and you're on your way in minutes.
i would recommend getting the tire patched when i got home. i only use plugs in an emergency.

I would use a plug repair kit with the mushroom shaped plugs.

thanx guys. i also thot the orig sealant stuff was too old to work properly.i'd heard the fix a flat stuff was pretty flammable and was dangerous when taking the tire off the rim. so i think some green slime, tire plug kit and the air compressor it will be down the road i go.

My Z06 was built in 02/2004. I just checked and my fix a flat stuff expired in 04/2007. I checked the compressor and it seems to work fine. I just need to get some green slime now.

Thanks for the heads up on this vetrnz06 ! I would not have thought about it till it was too late !

Green slime all the way with a plug fix first if possible.

I have used plugs probably 10 times and never had one leak until a few days ago in the Z06. I tried plugging it several times and it just wouldn't stop the small center tread nail hole. I think the smaller the hole the less chance of a plug working. The rear tires were 75% worn so I just bought 2 new ones instead of having it fixed.

Same here, I have the Napa plug gun kit in the trunk along with a jump box- compressor combo, I`ve used the plugs on both my wife`s car and the Z & they work great! Never had one fail. Unless a tire completly blows out or picks up a large cut I`m good to go! The plug kit is around $90 at Napa.

Haha! I guess I'm not alone in this. I've keep a full sized spare in the garage(matching rim) for our other car and fully expect the same thing of my wife. I'm a bad husband...
