I have been overseas for 4 years and have never really looked into vettes until now. I always thought they were out of my league. But now, I realize the market for them is dropping and found this 98 C5 Coupe. $16,500, 80k miles, aftermarket exhaust, brakes. Looking to buy by the end of the weekend. From the stuff I have seen/researched this is a fair price. Especially cause I don't have to ship it for $1000 it's right down the road.
Anyway, plan is for now to get this one. If it doesn't work out, then I'll be trolling the forums for another one!! I'm going to get one.
16.5k.. Any quick advise if it's too much, please let me know. Looks clean.
16500.00? Buy it!
First, have a mechanic check it over to make sure it is coming to you with few issues. You have to expect something but you don't want to hear it has bad compression or anything like that. If the brakes haven't been done they are likely due. The car is Auto so no worrys about condition of clutch and what have you.
I would say that if the car "Appears" to be to your liking and a mechanic gives it a thumbs up, unless there are a line up of them to choose from, BUY IT!!
haha thanks for the help. Looks like I am buying a vette. And the original advertised price the dealer wanted was 18,900. And of course, realized he couldn't sell for that much. I think it's a fair price as long as a mechanic signs off on it.
I would offer 15K....just cause I am a cheap bastard...but all he can do is say no, then you pay his price. Great looking car, and seems like a very fair price if it is mechanically sound. Also...DONT forget to do a carfax report on it. You might even go to a local dealer with the VIN just to see if they could run a service report. If they do this will tell you if any/all of the recalls have been done, and any warranty claims that might have been made on the car. Not all dealers will do this, but some will. I bought my 2003 last year and was able to get all of this info. Made me quite comfortable in my purchase.
It looks from the pics to be in nice shape. I would try and offer 15k or negotiate just a bit more.. reason being..it's a 10 year old car with 80,000 miles on it.. no matter how good a shape, it does have a decent amount of miles on it...which is not bad..these cars will run well into the 100k mille mark if cared for properly.
Looks good,,It is missing one of the peddles on the floor though!! Like the others, I'd hit them with a lower offer,,(Just don't be insulting with it) The worst that can happen is they say no!! Might save a few bucks!!

Good Luck...and you will LOVE the C5
I am a cheap bastard too, but ended up paying what the dealer was asking because I didn't want to let the car go. From the pics that is a very nice car, nice wheels, and plus a couple bonus mods. How are the tires?
Do the carfax, mechanic if that is what will make you comfortable.
Remember there is alot of them out there right now so take your time and only you will know if it feels right to you. Good luck and welcome to the C5 nation
You can also do a Car Fax check to make sure it was not in any accidents or a TL at some point. Other than that, it looks great!

Carfax or Autocheck it. I prefer Autocheck. If you send me the VIN # I will run it for you. I just paid for unlimited this month. Save you a few bucks! Just shoot it to me in a PM or email.
Looks Like a good deal to me. I paid a little more than that for my 99' with 70k on if a little over a year ago. As others have said do a background check and make sure the tires still have some wear left of them.
Thanks for all the help fellas. They actually had a carfax report on their dealer site for the car. Everything is checking out. I am purchasing it sat. and am having the mechanic take a look before I buy. Barring any mishaps from the mechanic, I will soon become a vette addict and never drive another car again! Well, until I get tired of getting in and out of a small low car in about 45 years. And in the pics, the tires look brand new. I am almost about to feel bad for trying to talk him down, but I am a cheap a$$ as well and 80k is a lot of miles
And I love this vette community. It's a lot like a bikers community, friendly and welcoming.
