Do you have a weight problem ?
Heres another, I don`t have to drive very far, very often.
As such, 99.95% percent of the time I NEVER go above the half way point for the gas gauge, usually much lower. I simply find the Vette to be faster with less weight. I won`t even carry the Club in the car, to heavy. I hate giving 'fast' rides with an adult in the Vette and usually say, "you should try this at night, alone with a 1/4 tank of gas", which of course is true, it will seem/be much faster. Z06 use`s thinner glass and as I understand it, the C5 storage compartments come OEM with no covers. I hear the Engineers are obssesed with every ounce if weight, so I know its not just me, hyper sensative about weight, you ?
I also don`t like my Vette to be called a "car". IMO, it deserves to be called a " Vette", as in the one and only.

The engineers at GM tried to design the C-5 and C-6 to be the lightest vettes since the '56, the lightest Corvette, and they are. The trouble was/is that as time went on more and more safety, luxury, accessories, etc. kept being added.
The original ZO6 plan was a stripped fixed roof model to reduce weight and create a higher performance level. That plan was scrapped when GM realized it actually cost more to build a stripped car than a standard one. So the bean counters gave us the 1st generation ZO6 we currently have.
Of course the 2nd generation ZO6 is being built with expensive and/or space age materials for weight savings, but at a significantly higher cost and sales point.
In actual fact there is probably not more than 1% of all open roads in the U.S. where the difference in weight will have any effect on getting from point A to point B. Race tracks and of road events excluded.

Also when people claim one cannot detect say a 10-15 HP increase/decrease, I think I can. Anyway, no biggie.

BTW - all C5 convertibles with HUD built after 2002 used the same windshields as the Z06 saved a whopping 2.65 lbs per car - have an order of fries with that triple cheeseburger.

I can definitely feel a difference when my car has a 1/4 tank of gas compared to a full tank, which is why I also run my car at a half tank or less, with the exception of the winter months, when I fill it up every couple of days to make sure I'm carrying more weight over the rear tires for better traction in snow.

I've always wondered why they put thinner glass on the Z06 to save a couple of pounds then added the fixed radio antenna adding enough drag to more than compensate for the lighter glass...for anything other than track driving the brake ducts also add unneeded drag. the rear window on the Z06 does the same thing, more aerodynamic drag. I wonder how much of the Z06's 200lb weight advantage is lost due to poorer aerodynamics compared to the coupe?
