Today I accidentally hit the lock button on my remote before my passenger shut the door. When I did it made a weird buzzing noise. It continued to make the noise once the door was close, but still locked and unlocked fine. It only makes the noise when I hit the lock button via remote or door lock. It even makes the noise once it locks after the car is started. Any idea what this is and how to fix it? Thanks
The door lock modules are notoriously unreliable on this car. GM used some pretty cheap relays and they often seize up causing problems.
The strange thing is it shouldn't make a difference if you operate the door lock on the fob or the door switch. Either way just commands the module to lock or unlock so the noise should be the same. Operating the doors open or closed shouldn't make any difference and there shouldn't be any noise.
One thing you can check easily is the gaiter in the door. There's an accordian type tube that protects the wires funning into the door. Pull it back and take a look at the wire bundles and connectors inside. Check carefully for any chafing or the wiring. Its been known to cause failures or relay chattering.
Other than that I think I'd be pulling the door panel to take a good look at what is causing the noise. If its the module its easily changed.
I appreciate the feedback. Just to clarify it makes the noise anytime the passenger side locks. It does not make it when it unlocks. Do you think I should check the relays first?

Thanks for confirming. My passenger door sometimes does not unlock at all, either when you pull the key, push the unlock button, or click the fob twice.

I had a similar problem when my car was new. The dealer changed the passenger door lockmodule under warranty. Now I understand the car a little better it would be an easy DIY.
This is Bakersfields post which is about the best there is on this topc. The pics explain everything
Hey guys, I would suggest you replace the lock and unlock relays in the passenger side door control module. Your only talking about $10 to $12 and most of that is the shipping costs. Use the link DeeGee provided and it will explain how to do it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, send the door control module to me and I can fix it for you. Just shoot me a PM and we can work out the details. Good luck.
