Default Radar detector

I got a ticket last week and can't afford to get another one. Who makes the best detector today and what kind of money should I expect to pay for one?

Call Valentine One and ask to be put on the list for a refurbished unit.

V1 sells them brand spank’in new for $399.00, and ship same day IF order is placed early in the day.

Refurbs are (I believe) 10% off and carry the same warranty as new and are tested to work like a new unit. ($360.00)

From what others tell me, they usually ship out a refurb in 3 or 4 days.

I ordered a refurb myself yesterday.

Another vote for the V1.

Take a browse in the C5 parts, you might find one there.

Trust me, I can vouch for that. If the cruiser has his radar on all the time while driving, then the radar detector works great, but more and more I find cops using the hand held units and you can't detect them until it is too late. I have been beaten into submission by the local LEOs so now I drive the speed limit. :o

I've had detectors since the old fuzz buster days when you had a big ugly aluminum box sitting on your dash. I swear by them but you have to know how to drive with them. Each is a bit different. Most will pickup oncoming radar before you get zapped as well as stationary. The real problem is the guns they're using now that target a specific vehicle in traffic. In that case, if it goes off, you've already been clocked. Mine has saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars in tickets, not to mention the bump in insurance rates everytime you get a citation. I highly recommend them. I don't have a Valentine but wish I did. I've got a Beltronics hard wired into the passenger foot well 3 prong connector so mine works in conjunction with the ignition. Best way to go. Have it mounted just to the left of rear-view.

That is if your the ONLY car on the road......most of the time you will get an early warning as the LEO tags cars ahead of you......then you know to hit the brakes.

Have saved me many. many times........they work fine if you understand the situation.

Are you enjoying your retirement? I hope so.

Get the Escort 9500i....Has GPS to help prevent false alarms and detection abilities are excellent.

Have them here...Just finished a custom C5 Detector Mount today that is way better than the stock suction cups that come with the Escort. I am giving away the Invisi-Cord and mount with the purchase of the detector. will have the C5 Package up and ready to order this weekend with pictures.

I have the Escort X50-8500 (blue LED), hardwired in. Round trip from MS, to CA went well, good warning when LEO's were around. Good warning when I'm out and about now, so I'm satisfied, but you gotta get what you're comfortable with. Mine was free, Best Buy screwed something up for me, so they fixed it and apologized by giving me a store credit, and I thought the X-50 was a good deal. I think it was $349.00?

i have the cheapest one walmart sells a cobra unit for 40 bucks or so and it works just as well as the escort 9500 i spemy 400 on make sure its up as high on the windshield as possible.... remember radar picks up the fastest moving object when it just roaming...... stay out of left lane use the bigger cars for cover and if ur first ur busted and yes i have 21 years behind the badge and the radar.... if all else fails hire the best traffic atty and it will never make it to court or your driving record...moving radar is +/- 2mph stationary is+/- 1mph thats from the manufacturer...... its also only as good as the last time it was calibrated and i dont mean the littlr tuning forks i mean a factory calibration,,,, the speedo on a real police package car has a cert calibrated speedo.... ive seen my radar tuned with my little forks then drive around and it shows my vehicle speed and compared to the speedo be off as much as 3 to 4mph!!!!

Thats only if you're using the gun and theres nobody in front of us that you hit with the gun first. KA band tells us youre coming from over the next hill.

To answer the OP's question...as far as affordable goes V1 is the way to go imho. used to have one and theyre a pretty good product. I have a K40 Calibre now which is a lot more $$$. Hidden sensor inside rear and front fender with LED lights in the dash along with voice. activated by bluetooth remote. Tells you band and whether its in front or behind u just like the V1 but you dont have to worry about driving through states where radar detectors are illegal. If youve got the $$$ id definitely recommend it, otherwise the V1 is a great choice. Good Luck
