Wiring a Radar Detector
And that is all great, my way the detector turns on/off with the key.
The doors opening and closing won't affect the detector at all and you don't need special equipment to figure out which wires to tap into.
Furthermore, its less expensive, the mute button is right at your fingertips and your radar detector is not in the site of thieves or the police when you get pulled over. When you mount it directly under the mirror, the cops can see it. What are you going to do if you get pulled over, pull it down? Yup, the cord will be dangling too and almost definitely get you a ticket.
To each their own, the OP can hook it up how he sees fit.

It's all good.

My way the detector turns off with the key, and does not turn on and off with the opening of the doors either.
The key is using your multi-tester and determining which leads are switched.
The mute button is right there on the V1, as it always is. If radar detectors are illegal in the locale I am in, I remove it to be in compliance (and to not lose my detector lol). Since it is legal to own and use one here in the cornfield, that is not a consideration for me.
On my truck, I have a 45,000 foot coil of wire on a large spring loaded spool that unfurls when I drive to work, and then retracts on the way home. That prevented me from the expense ($10) and hassle of installing an invisicord in that vehicle. :o
Just kidding.

This is what I did. Works great. Comes on when the key is on, goes off when its off.
