There is a 03 Z06 with 7,000 miles on it. The car needs the following parts: right fender, right door shell, right quarter skin and repairs to right frame rail. I pretty much figured you could get all the parts on the forum here but I was wondering what with the cost of labor a paint would the car be worth putting back together? The mechanics of the car are supposedly fine. In its damaged state they want $17k for it. Just curious to see if anyone has gone down this road.
The 3 parts you list are bolt or screw on parts that are fairly easy to change. So, how did the frame get damaged without any other part of the car getting damaged?
Honestly, take a very close look at the rest of the body structure because I'm betting there is more damage than some simple bolt-on parts. Also, the frame damage had better be very simple to fix.
pass, too expensive for a wrecked z considering that car unwrecked is worth about 30 to. My wrecked 02 z with 12k miles sold for 11k at auction and it wasnt that bad.
1. The parts you need are easy to find, the front fender is a bolt on, as for the right door shell it’s probably easier to find a complete door and probably cheaper to. The right quarter skin is a little more involved but not difficult. For parts check ebay. If is only a right frame rail that’s an easy to fix. But have a good body shop check the complete frame out as well as the inner structure.
2. Cost and labor is hard to determine, you are looking at a complete paint job so figure 2K to 4K for that, parts check ebay, labor check with a body shop.
3. The 17K sounds high particularly if it has a salvage title. If it’s regular title it’s still high. Without seeing the car it is really hard to put a price on it.
4. The determining factor is how much you want to spend. The title issue is also big. With a salvage title it is harder to sell the car and some dealers will not take them on trade.
Do your research and then make a decision based on the information you’ve gathered. It may turn out to be a great deal and then it may no. Hope this helps some.
Never buy a "wrecked " car.....been there done that and it does not pay off. By the time you are finished you will have paid very close to the cost of an average vehicle maybe even more....and you always have just a rebuilt wreck .stuck together on the cheap with misc parts from other wrecks...and if it has a REBUILD or SALVAGE title run away as fast as you can. Some states will not even allow you to get a legal registration for the car. And there is ALWAYS hidden damage.!!!!
I rebuilt my 04 z06 and havent thought twice about it. I have a great car for a fraction of the price. However, I think that is a little steep on the price. I would sell mine for $19,500.
