Default Steering Locked

Boy this is a great how do you do! I checked to make sure all recalls were done for the steering lock up, sure enough they were done. Well it locked up Thursday . Phoned Chevy they said to take it to a dealer and see what the problem was? Problem was the dealer that did the recall never did the recall but got paid for it, the dealer I took it to said it was never fixed. So Chevy tells me to bad there are no open recall on my car. So tough sh-t and pay for it yourself.

Thanks but I did what Chevy told me to take it to a dealer to see if it was a recall problem, then GM would stand behind it and fix it. The dealer talked to the GM rep and told him that the recall parts were never put on the car. So it's tore down at the dealer waiting for parts.

That sucks. You should of come here first, especially if you are going to have to pay for all of that work. I had the "recall" done to mine over five years ago and the dealership had my car for about 3 days.

I had to call a tow truck to take it. I had it towed so I pay along with the repair cost. If I would not listened to GM I would have fixed it myself.

rule one - never take it to a dealer, find a mechanic that is good outside of GM. read up on here first before going to rule one

Don't give up with GM just yet - call customer service and raise heck with them. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets some satisfaction.

I have put in 4 calls trying to go to the next higher person. I now have another person at GM to bitch to but have to wait until Monday. But what gets me is I was going to fix it myself, but was told to take it to the dealer if they found it was a steering problem then they would fix it. Stuiped me!!!!

The sad part of all this, other than not coming here first, is that the problem will NOT be corrected at the dealer. The car will still be subject to the potential of a locked column AND fuel will then be shutoff. Not good. Feel sorry for you.
For around $50.00 bucks you could have installed a CLB yourself and been done with it.

Before you do anything post dealer service, verify exactly what they did and what parts they installed or replaced.

Many times certain parts of the recall are done but not all of them, and it can affect whether the by-pass module will work properly.

Have you seen the recall notice?

All recalls have been done, the last recall parts were never put in. Thats what the dealer I took it to told me and the factory rep. on the phone. I was going to buy a new 4x4 in the spring it was between a GM or a Dodge. I bet it will not be GM.

Wow, you've been a CF member for almost two years. I'm surprised that you didn't see all the threads about column lock issues.

Good luck with the repair.

I did see them but tried to take the recall fix. I got that stuck to me. I think I will phone the dealer first thing Monday and tell them to put it back together, and I will come to get it. The parts they ordered send them back to the factory rep!

:I had the latest bulletin done last fall. They took out the lockplate and installed an intermediate wiring harness with a relay on it. I recently got the column lock warning again. The dealership said I need a new column lock motor again. They replace it 2 fyears ago.I asked them to check the new wiring harnes, relay assembly as they are known to fail often. They said no the repair would cost me $600.After many calls to gm and the dealer, the dealer said he would cover the new column lock motor. Fine. When I got my car back I went to install a clb module and found that they left the wiring harness with the relay that they installed in the bulletin completely disconnected! I went back and put the wiring harness on the service managers desk and asked him why it wasnt connected and did they really need to replace the lock motor? Since they eliminated the relay harness that was probably the problem all along as I asked them to check. I think someone was trying to take me for $600!!He's going to check on it and get back to me!!
