My problem was how to store the Kwik Lift with the following requirements so that I could keep the garage floor area as open as possible when not in use:
(1) Had to be safe for custom tile floor
(2) Had to be stored and assembled by ONE person without help.
(3) Maintain minimum amount of time to set-up and tear-down (10 min)
(4) Store in the minimum amount of space possible for quick assembly
The main solution was to make some custom-built lightweight aluminum (black powder-coated) stacking blocks. These allow the second rail and all other components to be stacked vertically so that the whole stored assembly only takes up one rail width. As you can see by the 8" tiles - only takes up 20" in widtgh.
One Roll was all I needed. BTW - make sure to clean the surface with alcohol or paint prep before applying or it will come off where you chock the tires.
Thanks for posting. I've been trying to find that tape (at a reasonable price) for some time.
I see that you have mounted casters on the bottom of the rails also.
Nice job.
Yes, the casters are explained in the link provided in the first post. They were necessary for "one person" to be able to roll them across the tile floor easily without doing any damage to the tiles - also makes lining up/inserting the torque tube much easier.
All of the other things I added are optional or not necessary for the average garage use...
• Non-Skid Tape (from Tape Depot) - $50
• (4) HD Rubber-Roller Casters and (4) Locking HD Rubber-Roller Casters (from Caster City) plus bolts/washers (from Lowes) about $120.00 + 2-3 hours to position and drill holes for mounting. Lots of things to consider when locating casters as they cannot touch floor with lift in the drive-on position.
• Lightweight Custom Aluminum/Powder-Coated Stacking Blocks (several hundred dollars if you do not have an inside source like I did), but you could make some out of wood for next to nothing.
