Default Paint damage from road grit

What are folks doing about the large amount of road grit that gets picked up by the extra wide tire on the Z06 and ends up back on the painted fender wells and the rocker panel and rear brake intake? I've only got 1200 miles and the nicks are starting to become noticable. I ordered the fender guards from Mid-america, but they hang down to low and I don't like where they will need to be drilled into the body in order to mount, so I'm returning them. The clear plastic sheets seem like a good idea, but heard they need to be removed and reapplied before/after washing the car.

Hey Sean2000C5,

I agree about he cleartastic. Got some for my white 96 coupe. For my 02 Quicksilver Z06, I got the "clear bra" for the front end. This doesn't come off when you wash the car. I ask about behind the tire panels and there are in existence. That will be my next thing to do on the Z06. Lemme contact the guy and get his web site for ya.

I know what you mean. Every morning, just driving down my paved street, I can hear every rock hitting the inside of the fender wells. Not only are the tires wide, but they are very sticky. I feel like a street sweeper. I have gotten 1 small knick just below the rear brake cooling duct. would like to prevent it, but don't want anything that looks stuck on.

My 2k1 Z06 has only 3500 miles on it, but when I was prepping it to store for Winter I saw lots of small nicks and the brake vents are really getting hammered. I hate the thought of it, but I'm leaning toward splash guards. I don't want to mess around with putting on and taking off pieces of film as often as I wash my car! I'll probably go with the Altecs.

Altecs? Never heard of them. Are the flexible. My concern was the ones I had were abs plastic which doesn't flex. I order some film from Griots garage. It was less expensive the c5 kit from midamerica. Plus I'm only seeing the nicks in small areas. bottom of the wheel well and right by the brake ducts. They sell it by the foot in different widths so I plan to just apply where I need it.

I'm driving the car and living with it. We use the car year round, a little less in the Winter, but we drive it rain or shine.

I think the 'cures' are worse then the damage. The clear 3M type films get beat up looking themselves and when they are removed, there is a big line of 'demarkation' where the wan't any protection. I think this looks worse then just leaving it alone.

I wash and clean the car regularly and maintain it as well as I can, Too me, the road grit damage is just part of enjoying the car. BTW, I do not feel the same way about door dings....
