Not sure if I should ask this here or C5 Tech, I figure General Discussion gets more traffic, so here goes.
The plastic ring that surrounds the ignition on the dash of the C5, is that removalable without having to pull out the ignition cylinder?
If so how does it attach and re-attach? I know one side of it does pull forward, but it is still attached on the other side.
I am looking to have it painted to match the rest of the interior and I have not seen that piece available from any vendors, leading me to believe it is a part of the ignition cylinder.
I believe that if you remove the console that goes from the gear shifter up to the radio that the plastic piece around the ignition will come right off.
I recall looking at it when I did my stereo install.

It snaps on to the ignition switch but has a cord that also holds it on.
Easiest way is to remove the radio bezel, pop off the cover and try to remove the plug holding the cord.
Yes I realize the radio bezel will need to be removed, no porblem there. I just wasn't sure about the pulling on the piece or the cord holding it together. So I can just pull it off (after bezel is removed) and remove the cord? Replacing it should work just the same?

Becarefull while removing it. The tabs break easy behind it and then you will have one that moves all over the place like mine.

Then down the road you will have a no start condition that will drive you crazy.
That so called cord is the wire to your VATS, it connects to the ignition switch and your BCM.
The stealership broke the tabs off mine and over time the wire will fatigue and cause the key resistance to read improperly.
The fix was a new ignition switch.
