It is all personal preference indeed. I like them myself. I think they serve a purpose for me. I know I have a couple little dings in my RH BSM that aren't that noticeable. If the BSM wasn't there, I'm sure the dings would be a lot more noticeable. I think too that since my car is silver in colour that the BSMs add a bit more flare to a subdued colour like that. Silver doesn't get the attention a red, black or yellow car does and to me the BSM add a little something to the car. But that's just me.
However, at the end of the day the BSM was "an option". If your car has it and you don't like it, it is easier and cheaper to remove what is there than to add what wasn't.
Ok well i should have listened to you guys that said not to get rid of them. I guess you live and you learn.
The project started off great, did the drivers side and everything look awsome, i really like it with out them.
Started on the passenger side next, the little piece on the front came off great and cleaned up nice. I took off the big piece on the door and removed the adhesive when i noticed a HUGE problem a big line all the way around where the adhesive was that wont come off. I think it took the clear coat off If there is anyone out there that has any ideas on what i can do im all ears . if not it looks like i am off to a body shop next week.
Not to worry that will buff out, mine had a little trace like that too. I used Zaino Z-PC and my PC-DA buffer. It's fine now. If you don't have them, a body shop won't charge much to buff the door out. Buff the other door too.
Unless your passenger door was previously repainted for some strange reason and they left the BSM on and painted over which is
weird, then I doubt it is clear coat issue. Without being able to look closely and touch it I'd almost say that is more adhesive and may
come up by just heating it up a bit and rubbing with your finger (water ski glove works great cause its shark skin to rub with). If you have a 10x eye loop, look closer at the paint to see what is really going on is it adhesive or a paint problem. If you don't have a buffer but have light weight rubbing compound or 3M finesse It II, start at an edge with a rag and compound and see if starts to come up.
A good tool to have around is an eye loop especially with paint problems, you'd be amazed at what defects look at 10x.

Ya know, I never open these threads either...still don't know why I did...
the majority of the replies said they liked 'em...but you took 'em off anyway.
The C5's look good either way...but I ordered mine with BSM's eight years ago and I like the look of 'em to this day.
...and I don't park anywhere near other cars. I don't want my BSM's getting dinged.
I'm not a fan of BSMs but ... your car looks great the way it is. Looks like a really nice clean survivor, I wouldn't change a thing not even the wheels. All the polls I've seen come out 50/50 for and against BSMs.
