I had the same experience. It was soooo easy just to sand the paint off the letters the next day (I left the wheels off overnight) with some 220 grit and a small block of wood.

When I painted the calipers on my last car, I just painted over the letters, let it dry and then used an exacto knife to scrape the paint off the letters.
