Can I just spray paint my side marker lights?
Guys,
VHT sells a spray can product called "Nite Shade"...it's just a spray on.
Would I even need to sand the lights down for adhesion or would it dull the light pattern or anything if I sanded them down first?
Also, what would be different if I just got some black spray paint and fogged a couple of coats over them until I get the desired amount of black?
Thanks so much!
Donnie

I just posted pictures in "Pewter Vettes" page 3, where I used the VHT spray on all my lights, I didn't sand, just cleaned good and applied 3 coats, only lights I removed where the four tail lights, all others I taped them off good and sprayed on the car.

Just curious,
Do you know if there is any difference in the VHT Nite Shade from regular black spray paint?
Thanks,
Donnie
Your car looks awesome by the way man!!!!

yes there is a difference, the VHT nite shades is more transparent than black paint. Even with VHT nite shades it's very easy to put on too much to the point where the light won't shine through very much (3 light coats max) with black paint it you put enough on to look good, I don't think much light would shine through. I've used VHT nite shades, its a lot more expensive than black paint but you will be a lot happier with the results. One tip if you use the VHT nite shades put on light coats, it has a tendency to run pretty easy.

I used VHT Nightshades on my old '01 WS6. I just scuffed the surface a bit to promote adhesion, but I also bought some spray can clear coat and put a couple coats of clear over the VHT. Wetsanded and polished, it looked fantastic.

I see you have your answer to the "black spray paint" question, and he's correct, you won't want to do that. Nite Shade is cool, a little costly, but take your time and you'll have a nice exterior appearance mod.

My 03 had black outs on the tail lights when I got it.
The black outs were darker than what I liked so I switched the tail lights to a smoke gray instead.
Then did two light coats of VHT on the side markers. Both the tail lights and side markers match and allow you to still see some red through them. They're also brighter in the daylight than black outs.
I added a cover to the third brake light since I took this shot.
