Magnetic Selective Ride Control
I recently started getting SERVICE RIDE CONTROL messages on my DIC with error C0579 and decided it was too coincidental that the same shock had failed. I started investigating the system and found that one of the connectors on the controller was broken and several pins were bent. After I straightened the pins the errors went away. I tried to buy a new connector, but the dealer told me I could only buy the whole harness (which has been discontinued) for about $400.
I think the bracket that holds the controller was a poorly designed. The controller is not constrained vertically and can bounce up and down, pounding the connectors, which are pressed against the bottom of the storage compartment. I saw a couple of notches in the controller casting that looked like they could be used to hold it in place if the bracket were modified. I gave up on modifying the bracket when I discovered that it is pop riveted in place (too much trouble to remove it).
