Did you get a message on the DIC reading "Service ABS, Service Traction Control, Service Active Handling"? If you got that message then you might have something to worry about.

This happened to me, recently. The light would come on every time I'd drive the car. The code said it was the right wheel sensor and that I had lost communication with the body control module (bcm).

My shop tested the sensor and found out it was working perfectly. They shot a little dielectric grease into the connection and the light hasn't come on in 10 days. I drive my car everyday, too.

Had it not been a bad connection, then the estimate for repair was around $500, including labor.

The active handling ABS system is quite complex

What you need to do is check the codes on the DIC and post them up. That will give an idea about which part of the system is giving the problem and we can start to troubleshoot it.

Here is how you check the code.
With key on, Make sure dic is clear, Hold options and hit fuel 4 times.. Have a pen and paper ready.
If the code has an H it is history, If it has a C it is a current code.

Here is a site with the codes.

When I got the message the first time, I had to replace my ABS computer and that is not cheap. It could be something else though. There have been situations where if you were driving and you turned the wheels sharp, then you would pull on the ABS sensor and it would trigger that message.

Ignore the U code as they are often set by power glitches.

You'll be pleased to know you don't have the normal snags that most of us are plagued with. The bad news is its an unusual one

P1571 is set when the PCM detects that a requested torque signal is either out of range or an expected signal was not received. The "H", is a history code and means that its been detected but is not affecting the system at present.

The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) sends the torque message to the PCM to let it know how much torque it wants under varying driving conditions

I've never heard of that snag before so my advice would be to sit it out and hope it was a one off. In fact if you have a U code it could have been just a stray wiggly causing the glitch.

Hope it doesn't come back for you

Post up again if it reappears or if there are any other codes.

The P1571 H code is listed in a TSB for 97s and may not go away. The next time the warning shows up list the codes you see. ABSFixer isn't the be all and end all since I don't think they service EBTCMs from early model C5s. What were you doing (brake/throttle/steering) when the warnings flashed? The original 97 EBTCM had a slight design flaw that didn't affect many people but did affect people who autocrossed their cars on tight courses. There was an updated EBTCM released in 98 but most owners didn't know they had a problem so didn't get the update.

This problem showed up within 2 months of my taking delivery of my 97. The dealer's best tech tore the system apart 4 or 5 times and never found anything wrong. Due to insider connections I found out about the design flaw and was first in line for the update when the parts became available. By that time I had flat spotted a set of Run Flats and corded several race tires due to the front wheels locking up.
