How much did your dealer charge to replace the rear driver side axle seal?
Did it fix the leak for good?
Not that I'd skip it if the price was too much. Just that it's a Sunday and Monday is a holiday, so I figured we'd talk about it so I know what to expect.
Mine was done under warranty but parts and labor was about $600 on the work ticket. I saw the car in the shop and it was quite a strip down at the rear end.
Its actually a really simple task if you have some common hand tools. I did the passanger side on mine after never tearing it apart and it was simple as hell!
Its a one man job till you have to lime the upper and lower control arms back up with the frame and after thats done and the bolts are seated then its a one man job again. Here is a really good write up about it.
Who, me? I have no idea. I've never been to Texas though. How much did you pay for yours?
I'm hearing that sometimes the axle leaks again. If that's the case, i'll just do the work myself. Kinda embarrassing to admit to taking it to a dealer anyway when i'm an able-bodied man. But if they can do it better or guarantee it, i'm all about paying them whatever it takes.

Thank you! How many miles ago did you fix yours? Still dry? One day job?
My car is a garage queen and Ive put about 500 miles on it since I fixed it. But they are hard miles. LOL As soon as I replaced it I took it around the block... parked it for a sec to see if it was still leaking and there was no dripping. So I then took it down the road at WOT and been WOT ever since. LOL
One day? HAHA! Actually this was my first one and it took about an hour and a half to take it apart and to put it back together. My seal actually fell out as I pulled the half shaft out of the diff, so that made it that much easier. Just give it a try and you will see how easy it is. The only thing in the write up I dont suggest doing is loosening then BIG hub nut that holds the half shaft to the rotor. There is no reason for doing that at all. Its a very simple task. Just make sure you have a friend there to help line the upper and lower control arms back up and after thats done its all a one man job again.

Oh I hate when this happens. He's just being a smartazz , meaning the topics been covered many times and you should have done a search on it. Instead of giving you information to help, or suggesting you do a search on the topic, he decided it would be better if he just made an azz of himself cause he had the extra time to kill.
On the other hand, you've got all the info you need now to fix that leaky butt. Thanks to members that give help when it's needed.
It is simple to do if you have tools, it will take you about 1.5 hours to do but after you have done it you can do one in 30 mins. The seal from the GM dealer is $23

Took three times to get it fixed right on the '00 I had - but third time was a charm. Mine was repaired under warranty each time - and the dealer's service dept told me it was right at $600 each time too.
