Welcome back to the fray I agree with you that C6 wouldn't do it for me either.A C6Z though....now we're talking

I still wouldn't do it. Newer isn't always better. Some designs just go down as classics. 67 - 69 Camaro for example. 93-97 Supra's, Nissan NSX's, Ferrari Testarosa. This is how I feel about the 97 - 04 Corvettes. I can honestly say I got more attention, heads turned driving my stock Mag Red C5 than my widebody C6. It'll be 10yrs from now when the designs are so out of whack euro looking and bubbly shaped that you will look back at the C5's and realize that body design will go down as a classic. Right now its too soon. Some of you may laugh at me when I say this but I have this funny feeling that the C5's will bottom out in price and years from now you would be paying big time premiums for mint low mileage ones. However when I go back to buying a C5 (but this time a Z06) believe me I will drive it and not care how many miles I have on it. Again this is just an opinion.

I have seen some C6 Corvettes that "turn my crank" to some degree. But, like you, they just don't have that total raw appeal of the C5.

I wish I could give you an accurate opinion of the difference between the two when it comes to road manners and "limit" handling. But I am convinced that I LOVE the overall driving characteristics of my C5.

And....speaking of interiors design....Sorry C6....I just don't like it and that silver plastic just looks cheap. And it is cheap....meant to "wow" the eye but I don't buy it. Plus there is nothing exciting about the design. When people get into my car, they specifically say they feel like they are in a fighter jet!!

So thanks for confirming what I've been thinking about "UP' grading to the C6.

And welcome back....

For your examples of classics I can't argue, the NSX wouldn't be a choice of mine but,my opinion doesn't mean diddly-squat to the masses. The C6 is a refined car no question compared to the C5.Some say too refined.I didn't think it was and I've driven both but, then the car has to appeal to a buyer's market.A nice lopey cam or FI will cure some of that refinement if someone's looking for a wake-up call

Actually, I kind of like the idea that it rides too smooth. My wife and I both absolutely love the Corvette, but with her rheumatoid arthritis, the smoother the ride, the better it is.

I'm just starting to like the C6. It took a long time for it to grow on me.

I have a highly modified C5 that I will be keeping but I am thinking of getting a C6 vert and throwing a hard top on it. Going to be a couple of years before I do this as I am still working on my project car and don't need anymore distractions.

Everybody has their own reasons for driving or choosing one car or model over another.

The C5 lines are classic just like the early 1958 - 1960 vettes.

I'm kinda lukewarm on the C6s right now!! But right here and now 2 factors come into play,, #1 I really love my FRC and am quite pleased with it in all respects!! #2 I couldn't afford a C6 anyhow so it's a moot point!! I think the looks are growing on me sloooly, but i don't even give ownership of one a second thought for now!! I have my big block shark for that REALLY RAW ,unrefined feel!!

Enjoy your C5.

While it being a personal preference, mine is for the C6.

I owned one of the most gorgeous AND fast C5's on the planet (In my opinion anyway ). I sold it in February of this year to buy a C6.

I thought I'd miss the C5. I had owned it for 6.5 years and loved it.

Well, after owning my C6 now for approx 5 months, I don't miss the C5 at all and would never turn back..

The C6 (again in my opinion) blows the C5 away in every respect.....

From reading your post, you made a mistake right off the bat that will now cost you lots of $$$$..

BTW, I found thse two things you say amusing

I could say just the opposite, "Get rid those C5's and move on up to the C6" But that would be foolish and I'd never say it. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

The C5 is a wonderful car. If you love it and it does all you want out of a Corvette, then why spend extra money for nothing to get a C6...

Whatever makes the driver happy.....

Welcome back!!!

IMO, the C5 is definitely a much more attractive car, both inside and out. I totally agree about the driveability factor too. I rented an 06 in Vegas for a week, couldn't wait to get back to driving my vette. I felt too isolated from the road, the steering felt numb and it didn't turn as well as mine (granted, this was a stock suspension vs. my modded suspension).

I would like to mention that the steering on the 08's is much better, along with the LS3, the steering was upgraded in that year and it does give you more feedback than before. I drove my friend's 08 and definitely noticed a difference. Still, for some reason, my vette gives so much more steering feedback and feels much more maneuverable. Then again, I've customized it just the way I like it.

Glad you found your way back to the C5 world and with a Z06 to boot.

But have you thought of going to a C6Z06 ? I know if I ever decided to sell my AE, it would be for a C6Z... just thought I throw that alterative in...

Eh... as somone who's modded everything on my car there are times I'd like to have a JSB C6 with some nice wheels and call it a day.

The C6s looks have grown on me and the C5 is starting to age (allbeit gracefully).

I admit that I didn't like the C6 when it first came out. The looks have grown on me, but not to the point that I would give up my C5. I would love to have the navigation and some of the other new things that I have on my '07 Cadillac. I recently rented an "08 Cadillac STS - and I loved the keyless ignition, the vastly improved headlights and I wouldn't miss the flip up headlight doors.

I've driven several C6's, though I have not had a chance to drive a C6 Z06.

I would consider owning a C6Z06 in a couple of years - as long as I can keep my C5. I wouldn't mind having an "09 C6Z in a couple of years.....after someone else has taken the depreciation hit on it.

Welcome back to the C5 ranks, though!

I test drove a C6 before I got my C5Z and the C6 felt too refined for me. I like the looks and a couple other things about the C6. For the price and overall feel of the car the C5Z won.
