Hello all. I am new ot the forum and need some help. I need new tires for my 1999 C5. I only use the car during Chicago summers. A firestone dealer recommended Bridgstone Potenza RE050A RFTs. I have owned the car for a little over a year, and do not have any experience buying high performance tires. What current tire out there is a good choice for my baby? Is the RFT a good option, or does it add noise and take away from performance?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm not typically a GDYR fan, but they finally got it right with the GS-D3. I've had great customer feedback from them, and can't wait to put a set on when my POS F1's wear out. I would stay runflat IMHO. They ARE rougher, AND noiser, true. But non runflats made my vette feel like my mustang. The car just didn't feel as crisp. Squishy in agressive corners or slalom. Consider Michelin's as well. A humble tire store mgrs opinion.
You can't get these anymore. I have been trying to get a replacement for one of my rear tires that got a puncture in the sidewall since April. There are none in stock anywhere that I can find and Goodyear have no manufacture date for them.
I put Michelin Pilot Sport AS ZP (run flats) on my 03 Coupe, taking off Goodyear F1. Vast, positive improvement in ride, noise, stickiness, cornering and excellent in the rain. They now have about 1500 miles and are still performing the same as the first day. $1187 installed at Discount tire (Dallas, Tx)
I highly recomend them, but I am very bias toward Michelin.

Welcome to the forum.. You will get as many different answers to your question as there are tire brands. Everyone has their own preferences and experiences with tires. If you decide to not go with run flats, consider the BFG G-Forces. My 00 came with a new set on it so I had no choice in the matter, but I am very pleased with the ride and performance and they are very reasonably priced.

If you need one brother- shoot me a PM. I have a surplus I stocked up. If there is a Discount Tire in your area, I'll just ship it to the store for you. -JOHN

Put two Michelin A/S ZP Pilot Sports on the rear of my 1999 and drove to/from Carlisle 1400 miles. Much quieter and smoother ride than the GYs. Rears were $707 installed at Discount Tire in ATL.
Among runflats the best has been the Firestone Firehawk SZ50.
BUT Michelin is just coming to market with the PS2 ZP ( zero pressure)
Many who have tried the Bridgestone don't like them for the same reason as the stiock runflats... noise, poor wear in fact the BMW owners (where they are the stock tire) call them run craps just as we so name the GY stock runflat.
Among non run flats the best two are
Michelin PS2 and Goodyear GS D-3
Both are tough to get because of demand versus production.
There are numerous choices of high performance tires from BFG, Dunlop, Toyo, and others... I'm sure others will voice their opinions on those.
