Default ipod peripheral interface issues?

I just installed the second peripheral interface in my 04 vert with cd changer. (returned the first because sound was very low, distorted and left channel only) This one works much better, but I still have to turn the volume way up in order to get volume comparable to the FM or in dash CD player. Then, if you switch back to the radio without turning the volume down, it'll blow you out of the car. Is this normal? Does everybody else with this adapter have to turn it up, or did I get another bad unit? Also, there is a constant electronic chirping in the background with this device. You can't hear it when music is playing, but it sounds like there's an electronic cricket in the car in between songs? Anybody else heard this? I will say it is much better than an FM transmitter, but definitely not perfect. If this is as good as it gets, so be it, but if yours works better/doesn't have these issues, please let me know so I can send this one back and keep trying for a good one. While I was waiting for the second one to come, I just burned a playlist to a CD and put it in the dash, and was happy. But it sure would be nice to have the ipod in the car. Thanks. David in Anchorage.

Mine works like a champ and does not have any of the issues that you mentioned.

Some things to look at:

If you have a storage compartment 6 disc changer, you should be usin the PXHGM2 adapter cable.

If you do not have the 6 disc unit, you should be using the PXHGM4 adapter cable.

Switches 2 and 8 should be on and all else off.

There is a pretty detailed thread here if you need additional info.
Good luck

Actually, switches 3 & 8 should be on, according to the peripheral website. Additionally, turning on switch #6 makes your ipod play louder, but I don't know if the amount of amplification #6 provides is going to remedy your problem...

I'm not familar with the specific box you are using. But, if it plugs into the headphone jack your iPod volume will be used, so if the volume on the pod is low it will play through the system low. If you use the dock connector pod volume doesn't matter as it's bypassed.

Default Better

Thanks for the replies.
Cozmo, I read that thread, and found that when I turned the "sound check" OFF in the ipod settings it is much better. The volume level is much closer to the radio/CD, and the electronic chirping is much less noticeable. Think I can live with it now. Love this forum. Now just waiting for my bundle from southern car parts. Thanks again!

I forgot about the sound check. That option blows.

I have an 04 coupe without the 6 CD changer (nor the cable from the front to the well) and am wondering if there is a cable adapter that connects directly to the two small connectors in the passenger footwell? Much easier to get to then behind the radio.

Thanks

Ed
