So, my HVAC display is now out. It works just fine, (temp wise) I just cannot tell what temps I have it set to. It was working on my trip, but was getting dimmer and dimmer on the drive back from PA to TX. Now, it's just a nice black (or smoked) screen.
Apparently the search function is not working (at least for me) as I cannot get any searches to come up.
Can someone point me to threads on how to get the display back? I think I read about ways to fix this.. Not that I am able, but someone locally may be able to do it for me, etc...

It's an easy fix..anyone can do it. you just need to re-solder 8 resistors on the circuit board...there are many threads on it. I've done it several times already..save your cash for mods!

Cool - Thanks for all of the help and quick responses! I'll take a look and see. Looks not too bad. I can solder "OK" and I know a couple of folks that are "good" at it as well.
this is a very easy fix! I was worried and dinked with it for the better part of a year before I took it apart and fixed it. Just follow the directions and solder neatly. Use just a touch of solder and hit them all to re-melt them back on the board. You may want to remove one from the board to see how they attach so you will get it in your mind how they need to go. They are just little wafer type resistors and stick to pads on the board. When you melt the joints hold the resistor to the board with a tooth pick.
When you first look at them they will all look like they are still attached to the board but touch them all up anyway just to save yourself some time. It’s a cool easy fix and a “why didn’t I fix this sooner”.
Kind of like the turn signal bezels but that is a different story. :o

Thanks!
it's very easy to do... just take your time. use a toothpick or something non-metal to hold the resistor in place as you resolder the connection. works like a champ! If you were closer to dallas, I'd tell ya to bring it over and I'd do it for ya.

I removed mine, sent it to him via overnight courrier on Monday and had it back Wednesday.... with a lifetime guarantee.
that was 4 years ago.... the cost then was $50 plus my courrier
Still - asleep - are you saying. .I could drive up there one Saturday early, you could fix it (we would need to take it apart and put it back in.. of course..) /do this and I could drive back that night?
if so, I believe I am close enough to Dallas and I can get lunch/beer, etc..
I just woiuld need to see what weekend I am not working (probably will be good later in the month)....
