Default Pro Charger feedback requested

I have a stock 01 except for LT headers, high flow cats,x-pipe,borla stingers and Predator tune.Interested in a Pro charger but would like to hear the negatives instead of the pros.I want to be able to sit in traffic or take long highway trips without any worries. What PSI is best? Are there any improvements in the quality of the product in the last 5 years? Thx

This post will probably open a can of worms. I think there are pros and cons to all styles and manufactures of superchargers that makes it a very difficult decision. I'm personally considering Twin Turbo's to be a little different but they have their up and down sides too. Think about redirecting this question to the F/I section and hang on!

only con is belt slippage/ shreding issue. If you have the right set up installed correctly your car will be fine. It actually doesn't even make boost till a certain rpm. So you can really drive n/a all day. Normal psi would be under8 but stay around 6 to be good. you can also add a meth kit just to be on the safe side. Thanks mike

(you should really post this in the f/i section you will get alot more help there. Personaly I would but an a&a vortech kit for the money and customer service you can't beat it. )

Default heads n Cam

i'd really suggest getting a cam only, or heads and cam package. they are faster and broader power band, than higher PEAK HP# supercharged cars. that is, assuming you don't go with a roots type blower.

Default When it comes to superchargers...

Roots blowers or nothing...

They make boost just off idle.

I just bought a procharged Z06 and drove it cross country from AZ to GA covering 1,900 miles in 3 days. I had zero problems and the car averaged 27-28mpg with the AC on doing @75mph. The car ran as cool as a stock Z06 and only ran warm for a brief period when I was sitting in Friday rush hour traffic with the AC on in 115 degree weather (to be expected in any car!)
The only problems I have heard are belt slippage (A&A and ECS offer better brackets) and idler pulley chirping, but I think this has been addressed in the current kit.

I don't think you can go wrong with a properly set up HCI or supercharged car. They both have positives and negatives.

Prochargers are nice. They are stealthy IMO when you are wide open which is cool unless you like that roots type whine. I had a Maggie on an LS2 car (not vette) and loved it but should have went with a Procharger due to more potential in the future. Heads and cam will be the setup on my vette in the future because I think it will be more reliable. Good luck with your decision.

i am on the same boat trying to decide on what to do... yes a good heads and cam intake always make good power but so does a good supercharger set up..... i am starting to like a complete sleeper set up with a slight whistle under the hood... dont think u can go wrong either way. so a con to add whether heads and cam or FI set up your motor can still go KABOOM!!!!

there's a very big difference. The A/F mixture on a supercharged car needs to be very precise, more can go wrong and cause the kaboom.

Heads and Cam setups and tunes are very well researched. the most important part is the TUNE!

Another thing to consider between the two is what type of driving you do:

Supercharger--Drives, sounds, and uses gas like a stock car until you put your foot into it. Will probably have a power band favoring the top end which is better for drag racing

HCI setup-- May be more temperamental in traffic with a lopey cam, does not sound as stealth, will use more gas, power band should make the car feel like it has a bigger motor most of the time and would be better suited to road racing.

I have always been a sucker for a well tuned C5 with a nasty cam though

Like BMG said earlier, a centri blower will favor the top end but in my experience, still pulls like crazy throughout the powerband and torque is still there at lower rpms. I have an A&A P1SC kit on my 03 Z06 and making 589/501 at the wheels. Drivability is near stock when cruising around town and so is fuel consumption. Keep your foot out of it and great mpg, drive it hard and, well...you know!

It all comes down to personal preferance. I had a cammed WS6 and I loved the sound of that car with headers and Borla exhaust, sounded real mean! With my Procharged car it still sounds great but not as agressive. I still get people staring but that's because of the blower whine. I just tell them I have a squeaky belt!

Like the others have stated, the tune is very important! Both can be very reliable set-ups when done right!

Friend just told me A&A is running a special 7K with his custom pulley set-up installed with a tune included. Don't quote me, but I'm going to go and check it out today.

The ECS Paxton Kit is a proven kit you may want to consider.

Superchargers are the way to go if you want to maintain civility and driveability. Sure the lope is cool and all, but it gets old quick daily driving, gettin caught in traffic, or just wanting a nice easy cruise with a girl, etc etc.

H/C will be more reliable and less expensive. If you want high dyno numbers, add a nitrous kit to the H/C. You'll still come out under the cost of a blower.
