Hey guys I need some input.I have decided to upgrade my foglight bulbs to HID.I found a few sellers on the auction site that sell them for around $70 bucks total.Since I am only willing to spend $75.00 on bulbs this works out great.
For those of you who got them on the auction site please let me know how you like the bulbs and how easy of a install.
Thanks a bunch

Going to HID requires more than swapping bulbs.......you have to also mount and wire the ballasts as well.
There are tons of posts on HIDs on CF, just do a search.
Ya I know about the componants.I just want a plug and play system that can be taken back to stock in a hurry if needed.
Are the HID bulbs longer than a regular 800 series bulb?
I would hate to buy a system that would not work due to the tight squeeze behind the stock foglight housings. Not much room back there.
I will be doing all the work from under the car so that should make it alot easier.
Have a good one
HID bulbs are longer, but inside the fog light.
There should be no issue with clearance using a 800 series HID bulb in a OEM fog light.
Most kits are somewhat plug and play.......depends on the vendor and the connector they use at the bulb. Some just use a pair of spade lugs, others have a OEM type of connector.
Many of us found that buying a $35 battery based relay wiring harness for ANY HID install resolves many of the odd issues some have with HID Kits.

Auction sight. No problems at all. As far as the install, itsa breeze. Go through the bottom access panel, remove old bulb, install HID bulb, connect a few wires(stock to HID, that's all, plug and play) then mount the ballast. Took me a whopping 20 minutes to do both sides. Need any help or info, PM me.
P.S.
IMO you don't want to do the fogs without doing the low beams. Looks weird with super bright/super white fogs, and funky yellow low beams. Vice versa too....HID lows, halogen fogs.

Sounds good!
I very seldom use my headlights so I am going to wait till the end of next year and do the full blown headlight upgrade that costs around $800.00. In the mean time the HID foglight upgrade will work great
I'm going to do the same exact things to my lights. Let us know how it comes along brother

an easy upgrade. you'll have to find a location to mount the ballast, I strongly suggest mounting it with some screws or something similar to that. the double sided tape that some use will not stand up to the water/heat and will release quickly. the ballasts I used had metal brackets along with them, there was a single screw hole in the top of them which extends above the ballast, I mounted that on the lowest of the small studs that hole the headlight housing in place. that was the only hard mounting point I used, I used the double sided foam tape to keep it from moving around. I have 3 ballasts mounted on top of each other from there, no issues with clearance with the headlight.
if you do fog lights I think you should consider it a requirement to install a high voltage harness for them. the stock wiring is tiny on the fog lights, like 20 or 22awg. much too small for the HID system which actually draws the same current as the stock lights once they are up to full power, but they draw considerably more power during the first 10 seconds or so of start up. if you don't upgrade the wiring it will blow fuses and damage wires.
I uploaded this vid of my car to show how long it takes for them to get up to full brightness.
for a bit over $100 you can get a plug and play headlight HID upgrade.
If you rarely use your headlights, you will use them even less with your HID fogs.... so why waste the extra $700 on something your will hardly ever use?
Buy the $100 lit and spend the $700 on something else...

Yup, looks pretty bad. I just did the headlight HIDS and the fogs look like crap. At least I have the option to leave the fogs off...they don't add anything now, but rather pollute the pure HID light.

The reason I don't use my headlights is they are super bright and attract every moth and bug at night With a white car that is a bad combo. I am running high power bulbs 80 watt lows and 100 watt highs. I want the $800.00 hid projectors cause they have a great cut off point and don't attract the bugs as bad.
My other cars that had HID were great and my wifes car does not attract bugs as bad as my high power, high speed bug light
Hopefully the new hid fogs will be enough and I will never have to open my light doors again
Have a good one

Bought mine from the auction site. Cheap. Installed from the top through the headlight opening. Simple install, plug and play. I have mounting brackets and mounted the one ear to the 10mm bolt that mounts the fog lights, I squirted a nice amount of silicone on the other ballast then used the supplied double sided tape to secure the other ballast piggybacked to the bolted ballast while the glue dried. Sounds confusing but it's not.

so you are saying you stacked the ballasts? that is a cool timesaver idea!

I wouldn't.....the ballasts have to dissipate heat, stacking them would not help. Mount them on the frame rails with double sided tape then wrap a long tie wrap around them and the frame rail. I got the long tie wraps that they use on heating ducts.......these are very handy.

Problem is the wires weren't long enough to reach anywhere. Might be my brand I don't know. You bring up an interesting point on heat. Now I have to feel them to see if heat is a problem, I'm gonna lean towards not really since they've been burning bright for a year almost with no problems. We'll see. Space is why I haven't done the hi beams but then again since the fogs and lows are so bright I've never needed hi beams either.
I just put in my HID bulbs from the action site and they are awesome.
Plug and play and only $63.98 from ID autoluminate. Took more time to take off the bottom access panels then the actual install.
I mounted the ballasts to the frame rail next to the headlights.
I added some trim adhesive for a little insurance.
They work so well I did not need the headlights.
Went with the 5000K color.
