I have a 2001 Z06 with 31,000 miles on it. I noticed that the windshield is fairly pitted. Small pits, nothing major. Is this normal? Or am I sandblasting this thing when I'm pressure washing it or something? I don't notice it on the paint, only the windshield. Something to do with the angle of the windshield, or possibly that the car can (and sometimes does) attain 100+ mph. As opposed to my P/U daily driver which doesn't go over 80 on a regular basis.
Every vehicle I've ever owned ends up with sandblasted windshield -- most noticable when driving into the sun when it's low on the horizen, as the sandblast pits really show up under those lighting conditions. The Vette is lower to the ground than a truck, so it would naturally get more crap hitting the windshield.
Best way to prevent it ... don't drive it. Next best way ... stay away back some from the guy in front of you.
Yeah, ok. It's cool then. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I was doing. It's unfortunate you can't keep them pristine and drive them - but it's no fun looking at them in the garage.
Unfortunately it's normal, especially in the Z06 which has a lighter windshield than the coupe/vert. Mine is very bad after 80k and lots of track time.
