Flipping the airbox over is a good idea as long as you have a filter that can take any water being splashed on it as it is facing down towards the road.

This is basically a copy of the MTI setup. I like the design, the only issue is that sitting on a static dyno you pick up a lot of hot air from the radiator.

But, once you have air moving under the car this goes away. So, it often shows lower RWHP then you'd get once the car is underway. The radiator shroud is an area of high pressure on the car, so you will tend to see more benefit than from the nose inlet which is a low pressure area.

On non Z06 cars the biggest improvement is to open up the foglight surrounds which will drop your inlet air temps drastically and account for a huge improvement in power (colder air = more HP).

I've run both, and I've test both. I will take the zip tie over most of the aftemarket air boxes as I fell the delta between the two is pretty minimal if there even is one...

I have the VR-B2 on my 02Z and I like it.It scoops up the lower/cooler/denser air that all cars like to breathe.

This is of somewhat more benefit in the winter months.I clean & reoil the filter every oil change.

Hey, try it out and let us know what you think. It's free
How can you pull hot air in from the engine comp? Air filter is in front of the hood--thats a good one

I had the Zip tie mod. Ran a consitant 118.1- 118.5 mph. Put on vararam on consitant 119.96-120.5 mph.

You're still pulling air from inside the relatively closed engine compartment... although the air filter assembly is foward of the engine, it is also above the radiator and the only real source of air is that coming into the engine compartment through the radiator, and it's bringing heat with it. Look at the facts- assuming, say, an 80* day outside - data from the PCM shows without the Vararam the IAT readings are in the 115*-120* range on a average day, where with the Vararam the IAT readings are right there almost exactly at the outside air temps. If you can lower IAT 40* to 50* you WILL make more hp.

The "flip-tie" mod is the best alternate way to go, to pull air though the radiator shroud foward of the radiator as not only has that air not been heated but is also a high pressure area. But beware of water.
