Default Should I replace Fuel Filter

Has 46k miles its a 2001, going for high hp 600+ rwhp with a fuel system.
Just wondering if at this mileage the filter would be clogged and I might have an issue on the dyno. If it wasnt 80 bucks Id do it as maint. without asking, on my 1998 it was 20 bucks I believe.

Why wouldn't you? The last thing you want it your **** running lean or not making the hp it should cause of a clogged filter that's just dumb. Worst case it's so clogged and your motor blows I bet that 80 bucks didn't look so bad then. I use a Golan on my DSM and it has a washable/replaceable filter.

another good reason to change the filter
it's hard on the fuel pump if the filter is even some what clogged

right guys, but at some point you have to think about expenses too or you'll say well the fuel pressure regulator might be old too let me change that or maybe I should send the injectors out to be flowed tested and balanced etc.

I'll change it just to be safe. Damn this car, it better put out every time I want after all this money haha

I change fuel filters religiously and use good reputable quality filters now, as i got stung many years ago on a turbo charged car i had, the filter was relitavely new but a cheap crappy brand and it sucked the inside out of it and caused a blockage and lean out on high revs causing me to blow a hole in # 4 piston. It was an expensive lesson so $50 or $80 who cares small price to pay in relation to a engine rebuild.

I'm about to do so also. Need to either have it done or buy the tool to release the line. How difficult is it to release that "one-way" connection?

I recommend replacing the fuel filter at 50K miles....
Changing the filter on 6 speed cars is a breeze with the quick-release tool....A4 cars are a B*TCH, even with the tool...It's difficult to get your hand (arm) up to where the filter is.....Keep in mind the filter was installed before the body went on..and engineers NEVER think about the poor fool that has to replace components down the road....

97 and 98 C5s take a simple, inexpensive, two fitting, filter (about $15)...99 thru 02 uses a more complex, more expensive three fitting filter (about $60)...some 03s and all 04s dont have a replaceable filter, it's in the tank...
What SUX is you must reuse the two plastic quick release connections (clips) on the inlet side of the filter (Ive never found a new one that included them..even GM filters dont have them)...These connections (clips) are easy to break, so be careful when removing them from the old filter.....

Also, it only takes a quick-release tool to remove the single "outlet" line (front) from the filter...the inlet lines use a quick-release connector, but they can usually be released by pinching the two clips together with your fingers....Thats IF you can get your hand up in there!!

NOTE:all of these fuel lines are PLASTIC...be VERY careful not to kink or damage them...if you do, you'll be in for a HUGE headache!!...AND, be EXTREMELY careful if youre using a drop light to see what youre doing under the car....when you release the fitting(s) you'll often get a shower of gasoline....One drop of gas on a hot drop light will set off a fireball that can burn your Vette (and maybe YOU) to the GROUND!!...Use a flashlight or neon drop light..

I replaced my whole fuel system when I boosted my 99, LPE FP, KB BAP, new filter, and converted to the 97-98 fuel return setup and my mere 750 RWHP has not missed a beat

Change the filter it is cheap insurance
