I've got a couple of questions for all you guys who have added subs in the rear compartment.
First off, does anyone have the plans for a flush mount sub box? I have the plans for the stealth sub box for the center compartment but I'd rather try to make the flush mount one as it will give me about .25 ft^3 more airspace as well as an extra inch or so of mounting depth.
Second, if I get stuck going the stealth route what's the best way to cover it? I saw this: http://cca.madvettemotorsports.com/s...ct_detail&p=75 but I'm not sure if it would sound as good with it carpeted over like that. Seems to me it might be better to cut my own compartment cover and not put carpet over the grill that goes above the speaker.
Any input is greatly appreciated, ESPECIALLY if you can get me the plans for the flush mount box. I can't really get too in depth on my search for the perfect sub and amp combo until I know how much space I'll have to work with.
With that said, anyone in FL within an hour of I-4 who would be willing to let me come by and listen to their setup to help me decide please PM me. I'm in Daytona Beach but visit family in Tampa quite often so anywhere between there would be fine.

I've got a JL Audio stealth box in mine so I can't help you much with plans, etc.
FWIW though, I think that cover you linked here would work just fine, or you could peel back enough carpeting on your factory cover and cut a hole (square or round), fasten your own screen/grill and re-glue the carpet. The thing I like about that is that the factory cover has a couple aluminum ribs on the back and really helps with strength.
Don't forget: The very low frequencies generated by a sub-woofer will go through dam near anything. So I wouldn't be too concerned in that department.
I just added a pioneer L7 sub to my 02 convertible just to add a bit more depth to my stock system. Am going Alpine touch screen with mids, tweeters and subs next year. Mine was custom built to fit in the "spare tire" hole and is flush mounted. it sounds good as a convertible doesn't have the accoustics of a fixed roof car. I also kept all my trunk space which is great. They used the stock cover for the hole just cut a hole to fit the sub through. There are so many custom shops everywhere that you could go to and get something pretty cool built to your exact specifications.
Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to build my own box though, it's not difficult at all. I'd just like to build the flush mount if possible. I'm not too sure how to make it work with the spots where the compartment cover latches into in the way. I may have to go the stealth route.
Ok so I made up my own drawing for a flush mount but anyone else's plans would be a nice aid as well. I'll try to make the plans into a pdf after I build the box and make sure it works well. This should be an interesting little experiment.
I built this box from plans I found on here about a year ago. I don't have the plans any more though sorry. I have since put down a Lloyd's cargo mat with a hole cut in and grill installed for a much more finished look.

My C5 came with a stereo setup including the sub box. I was doing some work the car and lifted the sub box out and found about 1/4inch of WATER in the bottom of the well. Had soaked into the box a bit but no damage. Seems our cars aren't completely water tight. I took a 3/8" drill bit out and punched a hole in the bottom of the well to let the tub drain. I figured it was easier than trying to find the leak. You might want to consider doing this.
I bought a box from subthump and modded it to be flush and have removable covers. I am planning on building my own box this winter to be able to put 2 12" or (cross my fingers) 2 15" woofers in the trunk.

The word for today is - Acoustically Transparent.
If the carpet used is acoustically transparent, the sound passes thru the carpet as if it's not there at all.
Talk with NVTHIS he builds many of boxes for forum members and could lend you a hand. He built a hangover box for a JL audio 12w6v2 for me and I couldn't be happier.
I built my own and bought an extra center compartment cover (mounted a 10). Cut a hole the size of the sub and mounted a grill on it. It looks great but cannot use a loyd mat anymore

I had a flush mount and my husband just changed it to stealth. We do alot of traveling and both cars are usually packed with alot of stuff for the trips so it suited me much better. I can now put my back mat back on and I don't have to worry about damaging the sub itself when the car is all packed

For those of you who have the stealth with a cover over it, how thick is your cover? Looks to me as it would be about a 1/4". If I can find a sub that meets my bass needs that will sound good in the .75 ft^3 that the stealth provides I will probably go that route.

My husband put the cover over it that comes with the car then my custom mat...
If you would like other pics let me know and I will have him take some and post them up for you
FWIW, I would encourage you to take a second look at the corner boxes. With the right 8" subs they will provide plenty of airspace for a great sound. I love mine...lound enough to hurt
BTW, made by Elemental Designs, paired with their subs. I like these better because It gives me more usable trunk space and provides a more stealthy clean install.
